LF: ice shack building materials

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

LF: ice shack building materials

Post by Yannick Loranger »

Hi everyone,
The brother-in-law and I would like to build an ice hut for next winter but with the upcoming birth of his 2nd child and my upcoming wedding, we're a little low on cash so we're calling on the generosity of family, friends, and other fishermen. We're looking for any kind of building materials for an ice hut as well as a wood stove. We're not necessarily looking exclusively for freebies, but we're just trying to build something decent while spending a little as possible. So if anyone has any plywood, 2x4s, plexiglass, anything we could use to build skis, a hitch, etc, lying around, please let me know and we'll gladly get off your hands ASAP. Thanks everyone.

Tight lines,
Yannick

P.S. Donors can expect a few invites to the hut once it's built :)

Yannick.

I once built a shack that was covered using aluminum printing sheets from a newspaper. They were, if memory serves me corrrectly, about 2' x 3'. I got them for free from the North Bay Nugget. Maybe you could pick some up at one of the local papers . The shed was mounted on an old pair of skis that I found in the garbage. The walls were made with 2"x2" s. It was very light-weight, functional, and dirt-cheap to build.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything kicking around the house to help you out. Good luck.
