Sandy Lake Kawarthas

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Sandy Lake Kawarthas

Post by Bass assassin »

The family and I are looking to rent a cottage at Sandy Lake in the Kawarthas. Does anyone here know if it holds any fish??
Tight lines,

Never fished it but according to my new Backroads book, it has good Small and Largemouth as well as walleye and also some musky. Because it is off the Trent Severn it gets less pressure. There are a number of mid-lake shoals around 2 - 4 meters deep which are your best starting points. You may want to pick up this book. I have found a whole whack of new lakes I want to try this summer in that area.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck.

You can find them in most fishing stores and lots of gas stations in and around Ottawa or anywhere in fishing country. I picked mine up at Lebarons.
There is a whole series of them covering different areas. They give you a depth chart for each lake, directions, species etc.

Check them out at: http://www.backroadmapbooks.com

I stayed on oak lake this summer and it's 5 minutes from sandy lake. It has a good smallmouth population and some largemouths, small fish but lots of numbers. We fished for musky and came up empty. We talked to locals and they said that the musky have been fished out of the lake for years.

Its a very shallow lake can walk out along ways in many places. Clay/sand bottom with some weedy spots. Ive personaly never fished it but heard of bass and muskey in there. Its a popular spot in summer lots of cottagers and one of the only beachs around.

And im pretty sure there is no public boat launch, only residents on the water or cottage renters have water access
