Hi all,
This year our first open derby will be taking place on Feb 15th. It is a fundraiser for CHEO organized by a local realtor. Details are still being worked out but we are looking at a different format from previous years:
- pre-drilled holes in a cordoned off area
- fish from 11:00 to 3:00, no tents, no electronics, old fashionned fishing only...
- cash prizes for the biggest fish, draw prizes for a wide range of items
- entry fee includes a store voucher and a meal (probably chili, salad and garlic bread) at Johnny Canucks, located on Trim at top of hill
- holes to be assigned on a draw basis morning of the derby
We will post more details as they become available. We are doing this with an Orleans Realtor, which has raised over $270K for Cheo in the past four years through a range of events. This is their first winter one. I expect to see quite a selection of prizes as they have many connections in the area. They have volunteers but few with much expertize in ice fishing and derbies. Fish-hawkers have been a part of the Oziles winter derby for the past few years and would love to have a few of you on board the organization committee for your knowledge and expertize. If any interested PM me and I can provide more details.
Looking forward to seeing F-H well represented on the 15th!!
Cheers
Yves
CHEO Derby on Feb 15th
actualy i love that format..if its regulate corrctly..like at alexandria..no cheating.
there was some cheating at the last derby..letes face it.
people..fish before the start and can bring fish frome somehwre helse or live frome onother day etc.
try that at alexandria...nope.
and it those not scare the 1200 and more ice fisherman..at 60$ for one hole.
i have been going for the past 5 year over ther and again this year..i love it..and that same formula is starting to be the best way to go for big prize derbys.
no tents or chak or helse.
all fence up around.
everything is gething chek...bucket bags etc etc.
no one on ice before tat certain hour.
not allowd to chek the deapth before the derby start
not aloowed to have a line in water before its start etc
etc.those are great...equal to all.
but if its cold................its cold....
i wish them luck to get as mutch people as possible...might see my mug down there for that one.
