If there is a belief that there is interest in a walleye series...You'll see it at this event...and go on from there!

One last suggestion....don't hold it on Mississippi Lake.......Ottawa River is our premiere water around here....showcase the monster!

I think RJ nailed it.
If we have some ORWL activity this year and you run a single event tourney to give us the experience of the costs, the logistics and the rules of fishing in this type of event, it would allow you as an organiser and us as participants to stick our toes in the water to see if we like it.

Reading some of the other posts, I'd be intimidated to fish against guys from the pro circuit, even from guys in some of the local bass circuits, but a single event, even a two day event would be of interest. Maybe if it's a two day, make it like the pro-am where the boater non-boater combination changes from day one to day two.

It would be a good start, low committment levels for both organisers and participants, outcome to determine a plan for 2010.
Bring it on Sheldon, I'd support you.

Guys keep saying that they'd be hesitant to fish against "pros" in these events. First off, no pro is going to cross the border to fish these events for the payout....it wouldn't pay for their efforts. That being what it is, who from SE Ontario would intimidate you? Name me 3 walleye pros. 2?

Don't be shy about a little competition and don't sell yourself short. If I lived closer, I'd be all over a fun opportunity like this.

Puzzled by the need to push it back into summer....

May and the 1st week of June will draw the most interest as it's early in the year.....and why do you need the "bite" to be good?....someone always figures it out and does well....

Just thinking out loud here...

I think it's been mentioned already..... but my initial thought was that you'd have a harder time getting this to fly with 2-day tourneys.

Likely a lot of weekend anglers would want to fish this and it would be a lot easier to commit to 1 day events.....

Hopefully it works out!

It would be real tough for the creator of this great idea to do much in May. From looking at his calendar, he and Gordo are going to be busy in May teaching a few of us some new skills.

tourney

Boys, it's alot of work to get things going and trying to get some sponsors. I've been organising a walleye tourney for a number of years, on the St. Lawrence, and it seems that things are getting a little harder. The one I run is 100 % pay back, paid to the top 5 teams with a lucky team winning the big fish award, $100.00 a team, and I can't seem to get more than 30 teams. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not crying, just so hard to get the commitment. Also, it seems like every organization are extending their hands out for something or another to promote something. With the times today, alot of companies are closing the door or only giving out so much and when the pot is empty, it's empty.
I'll be there because I love fishing walleye, the past three years I've had to switch to bass tournaments because there was no more eye tourneys ( my walleye buddies are still at me for flipping over). So Sheldon, should you require any type of help from my part, let me know, and I'll do what I can.

I would be interested, although not a serious 'eye hunter, most of my fishing time is spent looking for bass. I do enjoy getting a few meals of 'eyes each year from the St. Lawrence.

For me the "pro intimidation factor" (or un-even playing field) that I think of is some "pro" in a Lund 208 Pro-V GL with a 300hp Merc hanging off the back, a kicker motor, fore & aft trolling motors along with two 48gt coolers full of tackle, 24 rod combos, down riggers & boards. 3 sidescan/gps/navionics depthfinders wired together yadda, yadda, yadda. At this point it's not about skill, it's who's got the most money.

As far as the comment about what pro would fish this series. If this was a back-door to the International Walleye Tournament Championship and a hundred grand and you were fishing against anglers in 14 to 17ft tinnys and a few yaks would you show up if you were a pro? I would. Pros after in all are in busines, trying to make money, trying to sell themselves to sponsors and representing sponsors at every opportunity.

I would rather see a more local (ORWL) format incorperated with a single fee for each boat. 2 angler max in the boat.
Regardless of what format we end up with it is a huge undertaking for Sheldon & Gordo. I wish you all the best in trying to pull this together.

my 2 cents,
