Calabogie Lake on The Real Fishing Show

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Well Steve you obviously don't care and I'm sure there are oodles of members and lurkers with that exact sediment, however they've chosen to refrain from comment. I chimed in on the discussion because I do care and my comments did pertain to the discussion at hand.

Funny though because Bob finished 3rd at the Classic so unless you friend and his dad have different last names I don't think it happened quite like that.

Unless you are talking about one of the 5 qualifying tournaments then yes....the Izumis finished farther down the pack. They finished 11th after those 5 tourneys and once again no father and son team were top 10.

He wasn't saying father/son team.... his friends dad and his parter..... but.....

Seriously..... Jamsers what's your definition of 'WAY' better??

Oh, and I'm just going to ignore Joes comment for obvious reasons
My bad....but seriously, Bob did pretty good going up against local boys who have fished this area all their lives. With his busy schedule he certainly did not put in the hours pre-fishing that those who finished at the top did.

Interesting fact: If you read his blog from that year he even had to fish the Ottawa river without the use of a trolling motor (electrical problems). He had Darren on the push pole all day.

Finding the 'eyes in Calabogie can be tough. With the dam in constant use, the water in the lake changes a couple of times a day - second only to Lake Placid in North America I am told. Size limit is 50 cm. I wish I had a nickel for every 'eye I caught that measured between 45 and 49 cm.
Same for Bob - apparently only a couple of legal size 'eyes were landed among his 100+. Man, 100+ is a pretty large number on that lake, even in a 48-hour span. Not saying it can't be done, however..... What I'd really love to see is a bass show on that lake - it's full of trophy bucket mouths and smallies.....shhhhhh.

I certainly dont soo 100 fish being unattainable. Bob is a very accomplished angler and wouldn't want to go head to head with him.

My dad goes up there for three or four hours, trolls aimlessly with spinner rigs from the 70's and regulary catches over twenty. But like Gill said getting even 1 over 50 cm may just take a guy a lifetime. They need some big predators in that lake, the balance is out of whack

I should have specified...and I do apologize.
They did better than them on the Mississippi....
Not the tourney as a whole...

Bob is an awsome angler. No doubt about it.
Just happy that a friend of mine's dad bettered the "pro"..is all.

Tons of small wallys in Calabogie, that's for sure. Jim's shop is the best!

But still, as the owner... I'm expecting some rent now...

I own that lake... the wally's are only in certain spots. You have to know what you are doing... I told Jim... whatever... you have to know the flow... the flow changes alot though.

I told Jim... I know... I have spent way too many hours out there... it's not quite as easy as you think it is... but good luck, son...

Good luck, son.
