Calabogie Lake on The Real Fishing Show

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I saw the show too -- definitely need to get out there and meet Jim at the bait shop for some pointers (on Santa Claus impersonation AND catching walleye)

Good show. Looked like a great day and good fun.

Calabogie Lake - Bob Izumi Real Fishing Show

Post by Gill »

I know very well the spot where Bob and Jim were fishing - at the inlet by the dam - down about 30-40 feet - I've caught many walleye there, even a 10 lb pike once on a 6" sucker - kind of strange seeing that come up from 38'. A buddy of mine has a 10 pound walleye, caught right there at night about 5 years ago, mounted on his wall (he should've taken a photo and released it....he knows better now). Call it co-incidence, but my largest Calabogie walleye last year went almost 24". caught in shallow Grassy Bay, same place where Jim finished the show with their biggest 'eye of the day - about 22-23" - again, a rare legal catch. I have to say, spending as much time as I do on the lake, that it was kind of cool to see it showcased on TV - and I'm glad it was Bob Izumi, a guy I have looked up to for a long time. I am also relieved they didn't film a bass show on the lake - the less said about the bountiful presence of trophy bass here, the better. No, wait, what am I saying- there's no bass in that lake - take my word for it. P.S. Hey Joe - it's pretty quiet out here - have you lost the motor functions in your hands? Gonna need those to catch 100 walleye in a day. :P

Some good folks they are!!

Jim's got some great stories if you have time to sit and listen, I always enjoy keeping up with the area with Jim. He had a heart attack in Jan 09 and is still recovering. So wish him well if you drop in.

I always hit them up for minnows on Sunday 6:30 am for ice fishing. And whatever I don't use I drop back off....and chat some more.

That was fun to watch.

My buddy's family has a killer cottage on Dempey's Lake (known by many as Virgin Lk) and I love getting up there as much as I can. Jim always has time to spin a few stories and offer up some advice. I'm glad to see him get the opportunity to fish with Bob and tape an episode of Real Fishing. That must have been a huge thrill for him. Can't wait to ask him about it next time I get up there.

you guys are f`d if you could fish even near as good as an izumi you certainly wouldnt be here smackin keys. youd probly be loading up your big rig with 50g bassboat going to prefish fora tourney. you mihght be good at `calabogie lake` but what happens when we stick you on a body of water youve probly never fished , like many pro anglers do every day.
