pmilot wrote:You guys are pathetic. No one is fishing out of season, the MNR is amending the dates for the season opener for that body of water. FOR EVERYONE!!!
This amendment is for everyone, not just the anglers of the B1.
Grow up...
For a guy that has 10 posts on F-H since 2004 and 9 of those is for selling used stuff and the other post is to call people that speak there mind pathetic. I think that you should go back to selling used fishing stuff cause you suck at the other type of postings.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!
If you can't stand behind our troops,
Please feel free to stand in front of them!!!
Experience is that marvellous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again
This whole thing has nothing to do with fishing...Its Business! just like Fish-hawk is a business! Ask all the sponsors paying (if they do) for ad space/banners. Even if they don't pay Bobber anything, they are trying to get your CASH!
Last year the season for this body of water (in Quebec) opened a week earlier. Usually start dates don't move by a week. Most businesses make plans in advance based on these start dates. These businesses are guides, lodges, hotels, restaurants etc. All dependent on tourist dollars who also make plans for next year. Change the season start date and then everyone is affected - Not just guys who fish bass tournaments.
"Trophymuskie" - you if any one, should understand this. If they changed the opener or closing date for Muskie: how would that affect your business? I imagine you would not be pleased if they shortened the season.
Governments can and do change regulations when lobbied effectively (see Ontario Spring Bear Hunt). NOT always based on any science whether from Carleton U or other Universities. In this case all they did was to revert to the previous seasons date. AND not just for this bass tourney but for ALL anglers.
More than likely they had help from: outfitters, local businesses, and the major tourney sponsors - not "just" the tournament organizers who lobbied for a change. But like this whole thread it is merely speculation.
This is happening in Quebec not Ontario. Whatever happens will not affect the bass fishing in Ontario.
This tourney is not run by a club. It is a business.
SEBO's opener on White lake is not a club it is a business. The guy who runs it "earns" about 10k a year running it. (based on entry fees and his percentage take for expenses). There is a lowe brothers memorial tournament on Sunday June 28th on Muskrat. Should that be canceled? The logic follows that cubs should not have tournaments on opening day because everyone knows that tourney guys are all out pre-fishing.
No Club (OVSB- 9 - 12 boats, BAOO- 9-12 boats, and Renegade 75 - 85 boats) has a tourney on opening weekend. So the comment that clubs shouldn't have a tourney on opening day and set a good example ... well they don't have tourneys on opening day and they do set a good example. We are talking local to the Ottawa area. I can't speak for Kingston or the GTA areas.
AND FINALLY!
The rule change is for ALL QUEBEC anglers not just the tourney guys.
.....like I said erase the tread...things will just get worst and make this site look bad!
All the allegations made directly or indirectly in this tread and Ben's pre-fish tread towards Berkley, the organisations of B1 and other tournaments organisations will no doubt hurt Fish-Hawk.net
Thanks to the same individuals as usual!
....right now I would go as far as requesting formal apologies from Bobber on behalf of such individuals to have try to tarnish the reputation, the moral values and ethics of the people and organisations mention above.

IMO, our regs are based on the ethical principles of the majority of anglers and hunters. They are much deeper than "laws" but are a democratic collaboration of our opinions on fair chase, ethical treatment of our fauna, and fish and wildlife management that when possible we try to back with science. When some anglers and hunters view them as simple dates or laws, I find it disheartening.
This is all because of a pre-fish opportunity right?? SO if all anglers did not have a pre fish then they are all on even ground right?? And if it is to find structure etc then your fishfinder will show you that without fishing. Now I am not a tourney guy so I may not understand the pre-fish, but is it needed?? What would happen if you just went out and did what every angler does....find it that day. I also think this thread is great as it is a discussion on conservation and the negative impact that businesses have on it or the positives they can bring.
WOW....Boys you're not making FH imagine any good here. FH is not design to be a crime fighter, which this post has turned into the B1 bashing for their actions and not options on OOS fishing. Firstly, well stated Norm... Here is a little history on the events that lead up to the creation of this now misidentified post and the decision to change the 2009 Bass opener date in Quebec to meet B1 requirements. (speculation only)
The B1 made their announcement (registration open) of the event on 15 Jan 09. This was well after all necessary planning and other logistic administration requirements were secured or completed. Dates were picked for this tournament using all past available info and knowledge of previous bass season opening dates. (Who would have thought it would change) On 19 Jan Quebec MNR announced the change to the 2009 Bass opening season date. There was no attempt prior to this, to advise the public or any fishing organizations or oriented businesses, such fishing lodges, guide services, and a number of Quebec Bass fishing Series (that I'm aware of). What the Quebec MNR should have done, which would have advised all parties and public, as is being done presently by the Ont MNR in ref to FMZ 17 (Kawartha Lakes region). Make announcements that a committee has been created, which will consist of affected persons (Joe fisherman) and organizations that may be affected by any potential changes to present fishing season and daily limits, well before they come into affect. Or at least post an announcement of possible changes to the 2009 Bass season opener on the Quebec MNR website. What has happened post 19 Jan 09 QC MNR announcement, is that the B1 organizers after much planning effort and time has been expended in preparation for the event, have approached the Quebec MNR on the possibilities of delaying this change to the bass season opener until 2010. Big fishing events or fishing series such as the B1 and others (Kenora, Renegade, Quebec Bassmasters and CSFT for example,) don't happen within a few weeks or a month. Organizations have to make their intentions (series schedules or tournament date) available at least 6 to 9 months prior to the commencement of the event or the fishing series. This is to ensure max participation and that all potential competitors can plan their competitive fishing season. (events or series they are going to compete in). So as stated in other replies to this post; that all fisherpersons will benefit from B1 efforts here, and have the opportunity to legally fish bass in Quebec in 2009 starting on Monday 15 June. Again no crime committed here, just that an organization has approached the Quebec MNR/government to delay this sudden non-pre-empted announcement, that would have affected this opportunity to showcase the excellent bass fishery ( I have been told it is, as I haven't fished it before) within the Montreal region and to ensure max participation by those wishing to fish this event. As most of you have probably seen, that competitors are come from all areas of Canada and not just Quebec. So boys put down the torch, and as stated in an earlier replies, put your efforts into things that FH can affect (clean ups etc) within their control, that will bring positive recognition to the website and persons within this org. Just my two cents.
Cheers, Frank

Norm I plan my guiding trips around the open season period. I actually may not book anyone for the opening day or two just so I can get out and pre-fish.
Now these tournament guys keep telling us the season has been moved back for everyone from the B1 guys to Joe Weekend.
BUT wait a minute here the season had been moved back to a week before including the weekend or just to Monday the 15th wich excludes the Joe Weekenders?
Trophymuskie, I can only imagine how you would feel, if you had a couple of charters booked (now) for a few days the following week after opening day of muskie season and were informed in Jan that the season opener would be delayed for a week... no prefish and not customers that week. Furthermore, we are all speculating why the QC MNR originally delayed the opener date, was it to reline the season opener closer to that of the Ottawa river and the St Lawrence? Or was it for fish management reasons. Who know. But with pike and walleye fisherpersons out in pursuit of their species of choice...they too will accidently (I hope) catch and release Bass, well prior to the opening date.
I agree the reason it was changed was so this tournament could go fwd as planned. As I stated in my previous reply it gives everyone an opportunity to fish bass legally, if they want the week of 15 June. I know from previous veiwing of the Quebec bassmasters, they usually run their opening tournament on these water on opening weekend (2nd weekend in June) on occasions, but probably bowed out this year to help sp this venture and promotion of the area fisheries (my thoughts only), on the request from Ben and the B1 organization and adjusted their schedule to allow any of their mbrs the opportunity to compete. So lets not squabble over this, and just realize that this proves that if you have the desire and conviction, (ya some would say if you have the $$$$ too) we can delay or change gov't minds or intention, even if it's as small as this. Sure if the B1 wasn't happening we probably won't be discussing it, but then again, maybe we would be hearing complaints from some other quebec fishing series, that scheduled a tournament on the opening weekend. At least everyone will be prepared in 2010 for the season opener on the third weekend in June.
Cheers, Frank
