Last year I tried (and failed) to go trout fishing in some of the backwoods lakes in the Calabogie area with info from helpful FH members and the MNR stocking lists. Spent a good many hours taking my poor car where no car should go only to get forced to turn around 75% of the way in each time. I think I'll save those lakes for when I own a truck!

So, I've been reading through all the old posts I can and was really happy to find TONS of advice on lakes near Ottawa that have Lake Trout in them. I've never had a chance to try any of them (Been bass fishing mostly since moving to Ottawa), but I'm thinking of taking the wife out this weekend. She's really been bugging me to go the past few nights. Rough life, eh?

Does anyone have a suggestion for which of the frequently FH suggested lakes (Silver, muskrat, bark, big limestone, redhorse, loughborough, green, morrow, wabun, round etc etc) would be most fishable by a canoe? Up north we used to fish spring lakers in shallower waters so we had lots of luck trolling/jigging from canoes, but I knew the lakes well and I'm completely lost here. Any advice? Is it worth even trying? Or should I just buy a QC license and head into the smaller spec lakes? I'd hate to drive 2 hours to find out that the right structure is 5 hours of paddling away... hahah
I appreciate any advice you guys can give.
