Power Pole or making your own similar systems

I wonder if anyone is using the Power Pole or a similar system and if it works well.

I was thinking I could maybe do something without the cylinder and all the remotes by just using a push pole that I could slide into 2 U bolts one above the other in the back of my boat??? I would put a stopper on the pole to adjust the depth range.The stopper would also have a quick attached to the top u bolt to assure a steady hold on the water bottom. There would also be a guard between the u bolt and the back of the boat to avoid friction with the pole and the paint of the boat. Maybe I could just use loop bolts large enough to have the pole slide in it. In this case I wouldn't need to put a guard. Maybe this could work?

Most bass fishing applications are made in less than 10 FOW....a 12-14 foot pole should be good?

Well to me anyways it sounds like a great idea because some bass anglers often use a push pole anyways in heavy cover. So I think it would maximise the use of the push pole by adding this simple system in the back of your boat and on your push pole. Easy to do when you think about it really....and cheaper than the Power Pole.

The set up for a low profile bass boat might be different though but I am sure it could be done with some logical thinking.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I don't think I would deploy it in more than 5 feet of water. The deeper you deploy the more stress you will cause to your transom. Unfortunately, I don't think your design would work on the back of my bass boat.

Some of the bass pros have started installing two Power Poles on their boats to avoid turning around in circles.....keeps the nose pointed where you want it. On windy days your pole becomes a pivot point if you only have one.

I've honestly never really studied the mechanics of the Power Pole.

I know that by the end of last year I wanted something other than my trolling motor as a propulsion system for fishing shallow slop.

I was leaning towards a push pole. I guess there is less for me to screw up in a home-made push pole than in a home-made power pole

where can you buy a regular old pushpole around ottawa,I grew up in florida and you can get one everywhere,it's a common thing. i have a 115 merc. a 9.5 kicker and a bow mount minn kota,but they are all useless in 6 inches of water,when you want to be silent.

hummmm......now that is interesting

but I wonder if this really works.....what makes this pole hold on in the mud???? With no weight on top of the pole I would think it would just come out real easy???

Id be interested in the Stick it anchor for use on my jon boat. I dont understand how it works? Would this not just pull out of the bottom from the force of the boat????

As for building your own style Power Poll. I do what your suggesting with my jon boat while waterfowl hunting in very shallow water with thick soft bottom. I use a paddle to anchor the boat to. I place the paddle into the soft bottom and tie the boat to it on a very short lead. It works on most days in very shallow water and low wind conditions.

I think the power poll makes life easy as its under power to drive it into the bottom as well as remove it from the soft mud. There have been days when It took everything I had to pull a paddle out of the thick mud.

Perhaps when needed you could just stretch a bungee cord from the top of the pole downward to an anchor point on the transom to drive the pole down.

Ive only ever seen these on tv for guys fishing the flats with nothng but a nice sandy bottom.

There was one show where they "said" more and more FLW bass guys where using these power pole systems

Given the diversity of the the ontario lake bottom loon s^it coverage I just dont seem them taking off.

Like the electric car it will be a hard sell.
