This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

There was a Fish'n Canada show recently on specks....can't remember if it was Nipigon River or something.....anyways they where catching this size and on that show it was said that the chances where good at 2 digits trout...They where fishing fast waters in a river. Talking about records as well...
Maybe someone can help me out here....I know you can drive up there in Ontario. So if you do want to get big trout...worth give it a shot.

+ elec motor + 80 lbs baterries... we had 2.........+ all the usual lugage..............

Lugging that much stuff over a mountain is hard ! and then you go an add 10+ lbs of fish to carry out... you could learn from the rest of us, catch small 1 pounders and be easy on your back :D (Actually - who am I kidding ! I'd spend a month recovering from throwing my back out to get one of those babies ...)

Congrats on the big one....

Nice fish BA! 8)

All I know about trout is that they're good eating. But is a fish that big worth eating?

Probably not ..Only kept it because it was bleeding like a stuck pig .

Might mount it or just use it for garden fertilizer, not sure yet

I grew up within an hour of there (Nipigon River - Alexander Dam and downstream from there). An absolutely AWESOME fishery. I've caught numerous 30#+ salmon there, and my Dad fishes there 3-4 nights per week during the fall and catches salmon and specs by the boatload (mostly just for fun, keeps one or two salmon a week to put in the smoker).

He even hooked into a walleye in the 11# range this past fall while fishing for salmon, but regs state you cannot keep or fish for walleye in this river, so he threw it back immediately, obviously.

Specs, rainbow, salmon, and walleye are all VERY abundant, and VERY large in this area. World-class fishing FOR SURE. Worth a trip.

One would really think so Mike  I think it will be a little while before anyone has the chance to see a spec of that statue. You just don't see fish like that too often :o

Bass Addict,

that is an incredible fish -- please don't use it as lawn fertilizer! That would be a shame. Too bad it had to be kept, but it is definitely worthy of mounting, don't you think?

It's a beautiful fish. I think it was good fortune you had a rod and reel in your hands rather than a camera, at the particular moment that fish was hungry.

Why not eat it?

I have eaten splake around that size, (put-grow-take stocked)

They are actually quite tasty - marinate with Maple Syrup and Soy sauce, then cedar plank it on the barbeque, skin on. Drizzle the maple - soy mix over the fish as a glazing...

YUM.
