Well today had to be my shortest.......day(?) on the water.
Today was the first outing of the season with the boat. I'm just like a kid with the anticipation of the first day on the water. I knew the rain was coming, but with a breeze and overcast conditions I thought I might catch an 'eye or two for supper and be gone before the rains forecasted for the afternoon hit. Apparently the more than 2 doz. other boats there thought the same.
There were 2 distinct groups of boats, both seemingly happy to be within chit-chat range of each other. Always the rebel, I decided to stay to the outside of the pack, going low & slow. Most of the success seemed to come on the troll. I picked up several perch and OOSS (out of season smallies) and missed two hooksets.
I had been keeping my eye on a very dark sky approaching from the west. At 9:30AM, the approaching weather was coming much faster than forcasted. I decided I was going to move and fish closer to the ramp. I did not want to get stuck in a mad dash to the ramp. I had just pulled the trolling motor when, BOOM, a crack of thunder sounded off. I decided fishing was over, started the motor and promptly has all 100 horses at full gallop. Got back to the ramp and pulled the boat without a wait. The skys opened up as I was stowing the last of my fishing gear in the truck. Lots of people getting wet while waiting in line to pull boats.

Had the rod buzz and line arching into the air thing happen in the middle of Lake Erie once. Lightning came and all you could do was put down your rods and curl up in the bottom of the boat to ride it out. That sucked.
