Ottawa and Gatineau shore fishing guide

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I am just sad to see that this is where my favorite past time has gone....No one can say anything about a spot because it will be fished out. I too have felt this and have stopped to the most part. Does anyone else feel really bad about our past time and the way it is going. Go ask anyone over 50 if they kept their spots a secret and I bet most did not. Really too bad but definatly needed if you want to continue to fish the spots you do.

I agree Peter. But I think the purpose here is not to share "secret" backroad spots, but rather accessible shore fishing spots that are not obvious from a first glance. I drive by bridges sometimes and wonder if there is a comfortable access point for me and the kids to fish under that bridge. If this info becomes available thanks to this project by Fish4Ever, it will be really useful to me.

I fully agree with almontefisher, this is very very sad.

fish4ever I am glad you do not take this personally, you have no idea how bad I felt to post my concern.

I do share my spots, with friends and occasionally with acquaintances that have a genuine concern for conservation. Even in a forum environment like this, I think it is OK to share some spots through private messages and emails, but I would only do so with members that have shown a concern for conservation.

This is getting a little long winded but just two more things:

I do not think that sharing locations that one boats to are any more susceptible to spot burning than shore spots, but that is a whole other debate.

Lastly, I have found that exploring for decent spots is a joy in itself. We live in possibly the most beautiful city and area in the world, don't forget to enjoy the scenery.

Thank you all for the excellent input throughout these forums.

Then let's keep it to getting spots from local tackle shops and retailers then.

In the time I have been on F-H, I have learnt way more spots and tactics from local tackle shops or the tackle shops near the bodies of water than on here.

Sorry to those if I offended anybody from posting the links to the shore spots that were made available by the MNR and Canada Outdoors.

(I am not being sarcastic neither, if the board feels this is a bad move I apologize).

No harm done, let's move on

James and Ottawalleye,
I don't think there is a warranted need to apologize, no harm has been done. just different people have different needs.

I can speak for myself and few other fellows fisherman, we are casual fishermen, we consider ourselves lucky if we can get out a couple of hours a weekend, grab a Timmy , wet a line have a laugh and would be luckier if we can get a fish or two to show up say hi and back to the river/lake they go ( not that there is anything wrong with taking home some if one chooses to do so ) , so at the end of summer/spring we would have fished total of couple days all in all, we are all professionals and have our family lives too.

but what I call The "white bucket fishermen", who take everything all the time are most likely to be the dreaded nightmares why people stay clear from announcing their spots. they don't want them near. But when I look at the grand scheme of things, as long as these WBF are a small minority one should not worry to much, the Lord ( or nature , call it whatever suits you ) who provided for such beautiful fishery for millions of years would not be disturbed by a bunch of these WBF.

Peter,
I agree with you it is a sad state, but it is what it is , let's just to make use of things we have already and can control, I don't think it is going to change the reason being is that in life we have rules and laws for the 3% that do not respect the other people and the earth, the rest probably don't even need them.

Peace

fish4ever,

my fishing habits and life are very similar to yours. I hope to run into you at one of these spots some day and share an afternoon of fishing.

As far as taking fish, I have nothing against it, as long as it is done responsibly. I carry a terrible cheap knife, but nice pliers (to release with minimal damage) and an extra plastic bag to collect any garbage and line I find.

I'd have to agree with a number of the comments posted in this thread. I will frequently PM someone information on a location if asked and I'd consider them to be respectable anglers. Unfortunately it's the 1% that ruin it for everyone else. Whether or not the "bucket" gangs hammer a spot or not, once it is "publicly" known, more often than not it becomes littered with garbage, discarded line, etc. :(
