Lead-Free Sinkers

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Lead-Free Sinkers

Post by bm_attar »

I had a new year's resolution to replace all my lead sinkers with proper more environment-friendly alternatives. Been doing some research and came across many new material for lead-free sinkers. Examples are clay, glass (google Diamond sinkers, or for the real slacker, here http://www.diamondweights.com/), steel, plastics, rubber, stone, tin, and last but not least tungsten.

That was the easy part. Now where can I buy these?? I understand there is a premium to be paid compared to lead sinkers, but I am willing to do it. I replaced some of the smaller weights I had with tin weights (split shots up to 1/8th oz). I found some steel egg sinkers up to 1/4 Oz which I also bought. Now where can I find lead-free sinkers up to 3 or 4 Oz (for carp fishing particularly)?

Any suggestions will really be appreciated. I am not asking about the merits of lead versus non-lead sinkers as this is like religion and politics will always start fights. I am just asking for pointers to where I can buy and what is a better product, especially from people who have tried the product firsthand.

I hope this thread will be one of the few that won't end up with people have arguments :) Just looking for advice here.

Good luck,

I've been switching to steel.
They have no deformity like lead.

I picked them up at Wal-Mart.
They are actually egg sinkers but are shaped almost like a bullet worm sinker.

So they are perfect as worm weights
I think they are made by Steel 2000.

Tru-tungsten has various lead free alternatives and if you go to their website you can see what they have.
I have been using them for a couple of year and also have some in stock.
