When is a club a "club"

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

When is a club a "club"

Post by Jimmy_1 »

Here's a question for ALL F-H'ers.

When you join a group or club etc.....
What do you look for? If you were new to it?

Would you expect the "older, seasoned" people to show you things like proper handling, release techniques, baits etc?

Did you join for people to drink beer with? or to do that AND become a better angler yourself in the process?

Do you like it well structured or "loosey-goosey" and their is no body or board? Basically no systematic way to get things done, vote on motions etc...

Just curious?

If the "club" has registration/membership dues I would assume that it has some form of club constitution as well as an elected executive that manages/runs the club.

a club is a club when

people are willing to share knowlege and experience freely

there are no cliques within the club

when there are no persons who think they know everyting about everything and are never wrong

it is absent from argumentitive persons

everybody feels welcome regardles of experience or age or diversity

people are respectful of each other and opinons they have

you feel good being there

did I miss anything?

Secret handshake!

Secret ceremonies involving some sort of sacrifice (usually involves paying something called initiation or membership fees).

Secret chants/rituals.

Hey a clubhouse!

I disagree....You need at LEAST one of each...

And personally...yes, people to drink beer with AND become a better beer drinker...I mean....angler....

and lastly...people who would gladly give of their time, and BOAT/TUBE/TRUCK!

That's what makes a good club!
