Just started fishing the Rideau in the past few weeks and having a lot of fun. My buddy and I bought an old 1950's Johnson 10HP to take on a trip to Reserve Faunique Ashuapmushuan (which is incredible by the way) about 7 hrs north of Montreal last summer, and a friend has just offered us the use of his 14 foot aluminum off of his dock in Manotick. We're indebted to him!
I've been on the water a couple of times now, and although the action hasn't been great, it's been fun. We've caught a few smallie's, a small pike, a couple of 20 inch walleyes, and lots of rock bass.
We've been fishing near a weedbed upstream of the bridge closer to the baitshop. We got our walleyes on the weed-edge using yellow plastic worms.
We're really hoping to hit some more walleyes, and I'd love to get some perch and crappie too (I'm in it for the eatin'). If anybody has some suggestions to help along somebody new to the river, much obliged. Here is a pic of my girlfriend's walleye from the other night which she caught in the first couple of minutes. She swore she was snagged on the bottom!

Welcome to Fish-Hawk
From what I see you are doing just fine. The Rideau River has been a tough mistress so far. Fish the deep water edge for bass. Slow roll big 3/4 oz. double willow spinnerbait.
Once things warm up and settle down you'll be into some excellent fishing.
Thanks for the report and pic.

Lots of spots for even the smallest kids, not much in terms of trout though I think.
Nice perch and walleye action all over the river, and nothing gets a beginner more excited than fighting a carp
(be careful they like to break and pull rods into the water, bring proper gear.
Excuse me if this is considered spotburning (I do not think so) but certainly for hijacking this threat (You should post a new topic for this troutmaster)
MNR lists some common spots http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/Le ... 65650.html
Look for locks and parks (always great because all locks and parks have great facilities).
