Constance Bay boat launch?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Constance Bay boat launch?

Post by FisherLife420 »

That's a nice launch over there in Bucham's Bay... a little steep and narrow but still a good launch.

It was $400 000 for the 2 launches? One in Fitzroy Harbour and the one at Constance? Is that cost right? What was all the money for? What happened in Fitzroy? Both were existing boat launches right that were repaired and improved, right? How did $400 000 get spent on that launch? That must be some launch over in Fitzroy!

I guess that includes lifetime maintenance? For that price there should be a roof, a red carpet, free drinks, a bubbler to prevent ice build-up and a parking lot!

If they ever decide to charge for the use of that launch I'll lose it...

$400 000? How in the heck? Shocking...

Did somebody add an extra zero? Maybe $40 000 is more like it.

I've been to both launches. They are pretty much the same build. The problem is that I can't launch my boat in Fitzroy. The water level is lower than the slanted part of the cement ramp. I have to get too deep almost putting water in the back of the van.

I saw a guy launching with his pick up and he commented on the water level. He had to put his front tires quite a ways in the water.

I did better launching in Constance Bay.

Does anyone know how long it would take to get from Constance Bay to the dam area in Fitzroy by boat? There's a few spots that look good.

Its not that far at all from Constance Bay to Fitzroy. Maybe 20 minutes max in a small tinny.

Lots of rocks though on the way in and out of Fitzroy.

So if the launch at Fitzroy is the same then how did that cost $400 000? That's what it was reported to cost anyway.

And Fitzroy is only good when the water level is high? And Constance Bay may be too steep for some larger boats? That's what $400 000 gets you nowadays?!?

I work for the company who built and installed them and I can only comment that they were built to spec and are at grades provided by DFO. Now that water levels have dropped I'll agree they are pretty high. The prob with the old Buckham's launch was that it was constantly submerged winter/spring and the concrete was comprimised long ago. And the Fitzroy launch was "done for" a while back too.

As to the cost... I've done small backyard landscape jobs that cost way more than $40,000    When you couple the hemlock timbers, meter upon meter of concrete, precast ramps and cribs placed by scuba divers and crane trucks with the fact that this was done in the dead of winter thru the ice... $400,000 is not too hard to believe. Ever check out what the mayor's office spends on a shin dig to gab about nothing? Mindblowing dollars!!

Tight lines and big fishies!

Nothing wrong with the water level for the Constance Bay launch right now. It is steep but there's ridges built into it for traction near the bottom section so I think most rigs can launch. Big moster boats will just need a big truck! Or $15 for Port O Call Marina... they raised there prices!

And yeah, no parking but "that's how she goes" (Ricky's Dad)...

$400 000 for two small boat launches is explained by "that's how she goes".
