Fitzroy Muskie Help needed!
Fitzroy Muskie Help needed!
I am fishing the Woodridge Classic on Sept 13.
However I am told that if you do not know Fitzroy it can be REAL treacherous!
Anyone know the waters and wouldn't mind spending a day/morning/afternoon chasing Mooskies???
Last thing I need is a damaged boat! I know structure=fish..but damaged boat=no fishing.

We also got banged up at fitzroy, navigating from that boat launch is hell!
THere were big trees and rocks sticking out near the launch and the current makes it VERY HARD to navigate.
We went inbetween this island of somesort and let me tell yah, it was BRUTAL!
not going back there any time!
Not an easy place to fish, with that big dam there spitting out water and current.....
I'm surprised people havent' died in the water right near the boat launch.....it was very terrifying

Just launch out of Buckams Bay and save yourself the hastle. There is a pretty predominate weedline along the Ontario Side as you come out from Fitzroy and head east...I think that's where it was last year. Pulled a couple off of it, but nothing too huge. On both sides there are weedbeds, from what memory tells me, and I think I remember a few follows here and there but nothing to write home about. Other than that, not too sure. I was actuially trying to find a depth chart online but was unsuccessful. If anyone has a scanned copy of that area or know where there is one online, that would be a great help to us all!
Cheers and good luck.

To fish Rob's tourney I think you have had the best advice already - launch at Buckhams. If you don't have charts on gps, the harbour area is a prop eater - and only 1 way out from the launch and it's hard to describe. Constance Bay and Buckhams Bay have plenty of areas to catch musky with well defiend weedlines and you can fish all the way to the ferry with relative safety. Beyond the ferry is deadhead country on the Q side but the O is clean all the way to Willola beach. Don't approach the island where the barge is parked or the dam area without charts. There will be plenty of boats out that day if you are not sure. Have fun.Jamsers wrote:I am fishing the Woodridge Classic on Sept 13.

Does anyone have more info regarding this tourney such as start and end time, rules, prizes, where to register, etc...
I talked to a local lad last night and he thought the entry fee was $25

And.....if you don't know the water, it would be a good idea to bring a spare prop

Like previously stated if you launch at fitzroy got straight out from the launch and around the island towards the dam. Do not go right from the launch....between the island and fitzroy or you will for sure hit something. Just take it easy until your out near the dam and you'll be fine. My buddy caught a 51" skie straight out from the launch there earlier this year.
Cheers
