Well I have to agree with all on here that this article, while it may be the guy's catch of his life, is "highly exaggerated" and unfortunately not a good representation of how to handle, properly release, or conserve these wonderful fish.....let alone the author of the story didn't publish anything that was fact.
It's too bad really, we all get that, but please let's not go down a rat hole on this one with a campaign to tear the guy up.
Nice fish...some lessons to be learned by the guy....let's leave it at that.
Cheers,

Anglers Choice,
WOW, thanks, because your posting those two pics together REALLY puts a harsh bite of reality on the 1st claim.
I was disturbed at the article for the same reasons others are citing: 1/2 hour to land, 20 pictures, vertical hold. None of this is speculated, but quoted directly from the article and/or seen in the pic. What a shame, and it seems this angler truly wanted to see the fish swim off successfully but was just grossly under-educated. I think he is very naiive and believes in fairy tale endings.
A probable sad ending that really tarnishes what could have been a great story. Let's hope that the slim statistical chance of this fish surviving is teamed up with an exceptionally tough fish that just might recover.

PS: this fish made my eyes pop out.INCREDIBLE! Beautiful, fat, mammoth of a fish. Just gorgeous from its massive size, to its fantastic patterning. Love that it doesn't seem to have a detrimental mark on it.
