POWER PRO !!!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I use PowerPro through the ice for lakers down deep - nice to have the better sensitivity and solid hook sets. Sometimes I can even feel a fish bump the lure or grabbing the minnow tail before committing...

What I noticed when I switched to braid is that the fish seem to see the line easier in winter than in summer, the bite slowed relative to my fishing partners who were still using mono. My uninformed guess is less suspended material in winter = clearer water.

To overcome this, I added a 6ft piece of flouro leader to the end of the PowerPro. The bite returned as per mono, but now with the added sensitivity and improved hooksets. Our whole group now switched to braid... less cut line by the ice was a bonus!!

The Power pro does ice up a bit - but not enough for me to consider it a problem.

Dude, the Power Pro is incredible on the ice and there is no need to use mono...although I still keep a rod with 3lb. ice line from Berkley for some of my panfish angling with really teeny jigs.

Power Pro is a dream for deep whitefish and lakers, you should however use a flc. leader and learn to take your time fighting them and when near the hole as there is almost no give with braid.

Should also mention that I fish line that most people consider way to skinny for what I do...but have yet to break it...15 pound is about the heaviest I have ever spooled for ice fishing and Power Pro...more likely to use 8-10...and retie your knots and as mentioned above...take your time.

Enjoy the winter and fish smart... and fish safe :D

Hey Big Jig - When you say Powerpro - are you referring to all braids, or is Powerpro your preference? Some anglers are very passionate about using fused lines as well - would you consider them just as effective on ice? I know they take awhile to get worked-in, but as long as you're in a hut to prevent freezing, I've been so satified I didn't look any further. There is a new Fused line out from Sufix that I just started using - so far it's awesome.

cheers,
LK

For fishig in more that 15 FOW go for red Power Pro braid line any season.
Above 15 FOW green is the main choice.
Red is the first color to disappear, at a depth of 15 feet (which is why underwater photographers often use red filters to restore red colors in their pictures).

Hey Lonnie

Hey Lonnie, I am really lucky that I have used Power Pro for years on end ever since I have seen the light on braids...then my 26 year marketing partner... SHIMANO... bought the company :D :D .

I use Power Pro, but if you have other braids they will get the job done through the ice.
