HT Enterprises Polar Extreme Tip up

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

HT Enterprises Polar Extreme Tip up

Post by Fishosophy »

I just picked one of these up at Canadian Tire for $20.00. Just wondering if anyone with any prior experience with this product has any advice to share?
i.e. Which fishing line, leaders, weights, hooks, etc... It looks like it will work well. The only thing I foresee problems with is setting the tension. I usually use live minnows and a couple of split shots when I'm ice fishing.

I really only use a tip-up while pike fishing.

Have used that style before.....they are great for not having to tend your hole as the hole will not freeze up....

For Pike I don't finesse it all.....I use 20 pound dacron line...most of the time a simple double hook quick strike leader type rig.....I put a 1/2 oz slip sinker on the dacron above the leader to keep my bait in place...

I own one and am impressed with fact you don't have to deslush the hole which saves time, and they fit conviently into a five gallon bucket. I rig mine with darcon 20 pound test and then attach a swivel and then a 5 foot section of power pro 10 pound test blue icefishing line and then a size 12 or 14 trebile hook. The advantage of the small hook is you can catch many more speices and penertrates the flesh instantly when you set the hook you get a better hook set also the hook is less visible to the fish. Have fun on the ice.
