Green Bins?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

And the City gets a cut of it right?? Cause are you not charged on your yearly taxes for this service...and then a company gets paid to pick it up and then gets paid to sell it...I want a peice of this action

Not sure what this has to do with fishing but the following are the answers to your questions:

http://www.ottawa.ca/residents/recyclin ... P202_22008

Q: What will be done with the compost?

A: Under our contract with the composting facility, they retain 90 per cent of the compost and the city retains ten per cent. The composting facility plans on selling their share to the local Ottawa farming community. This same process has been successful in other communities to the point where they have more demand for compost than they can supply. The City will use its ten per cent for internal greening efforts and community-based tree planting and garden projects.

Q: Will residents have an opportunity to purchase the composted material once it has been processed?

A: Possibly. The City may allocate a portion of its share to compost sales or giveaways, which would be advertised to the general public.

Q: Will compost still be available at the Trail Rd. landfill?

A: Yes.

So, they want me to give away my bio-degradeable garbage (minus poop, which is really all I want to give the city...), only to sell it to a private company, or to sell it BACK to me......possibly.

In my living area, they gave away composters 10 years ago, and I use them exclusively...Why in the world would I stop composting in my yard and do this instead?

IMO, absolutely ridiculous

Call and they come and pick up the green bin and take it away...putting the green bin in the blue bin didn't work for me, they didn't take it...

Yes they will come and get it but you will still pay for it on your taxes. So at least you could keep the bin and use it for something else.

I'm a quebec resident so I dont have this green bin ! I went to my fathers house yesterday and he had one and is 100% against this green bin... He has an outdoor decomposer in his yard and so do i and were very satisfied with that. The first thing that comes to my mind is that in the hot summer days isn't all what's in the bin going to roth and produce magots/then flies everywhere ?

Maybee i'm wrong, I just think it's a dirty project they came up with. That's just what I think !

Really Luke??? You could get some great head cheese out the the head of it...the hide you bring to a depot and get a hat for it and the carcass makes for great soup bases....You of all people should enjoy the head cheese....Maybe even try smoking it with a nice cherry applewood smoking chips...

Yes really.

Not into head cheese.
I believe without going up north, the "hide depots" only operate during rifle season. (We have a guy who picks them up from us).

As for the bones, I have enough in the freezer for soup/stew bases.

LOL so do I, so I might have to stay home from work next garbage day.

Or I suppose I could setup a trail camera.
