Back at the Gouin

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Devon, there is moose, black bears, wolves, lynx, bobcats, martins, fishers, weasels, minx, beaver, hares, rabbits and many different types of birds.

Last November I had a big cow moose right beside the generator room.

Another day and more of the white stuff coming down, Probably received about 30" since I arrived. I'm getting tired moving it around, LOL.

WHERE"S THE SNOW BLOWER?????????

Wolfe , there's about 4' covering the ground and drifts up to 7' and the forecast is unrelenting for the next 5 days - more to come and great for runoff water levels.

Hey Max, nice to see you cruising the board - How'd you do on the bay: any biggies?

Planning out what has to be done before I leave - things like water & wood stockpiled because Ronnie has only one wing and I have to make it as easy as I can for him. There's also a 200# propane tank that I have to dig out of the snow and ice, tow over to the cabin ready for hook-up - the online supply is getting low.

All the bull work over the last few days is taking a toll on me but the work has to be done. I bet some of you guys thought I was on vacation - EH!!!!!!

I'll check in again after lunch.

See ya later

This will probably be my last full day here so will finish up all the chores I can.

Didn't capture any wildlife with the camera but the pets were cooperative

Here's Boomer after I woke him from a snowbank

Likely won't have a chance to post until I get home so -

Hey McQ,

I enjoyed reading about your times at the Gouin again.

Good luck getting all the remaining ducks in a row and on the trip ahead. Hope it all goes smoothly.

Safe travels!

W.

PS: now there's a cute bunch of critters, even if they aren't "wild".

MAROONED, with all the bad weather everywhere nobody can get up here until Sunday or Monday. It's going to take a crew with a couple of machines to get in to help Ronnie and get me out. It's really quite terrible with all the snow and wind yesterday and today. Mild temps but that compounds the problems keeping the freezers up to temp.

On the bright side there's a bit more time to get a few things done that I hadn't covered.

I managed to bury the machine again late yesterday so I'm facing an hour or so of digging to get it out. With all the powder earlier in the week and a thin crust a small mistake creates extra work - Oh Well, I'll get it done.

See ya later

Hey McQ,

sounds like you are definitely at the mercy of the weather in more ways than one. At least you get a bonus couple of days to enjoy your heaven on earth.

We got about 14-15" of new snow overnight. Luckily, the high winds that were forecasted never really got that brutal, so we did not lose power as was expected.

Digging out all day. Getting the horses out was interesting.

Be safe and good luck with your remaining tasks. Keep that camera handy, just in case some willing wildlife shows up.

Got the machine out and it's parked beside the cabin. Water reservoir is full, the auger handles just hit the snow top when I punched through and I have some fresh work handed me - with the mild weather the snow curl on the woodshed is now on the ground stacked 4' high. Will have to shovel the wet sticky stuff out to get to my heat source.

Troubles never end - life in the bush sure teaches you to be prepared to exercise a few muscles.

More snow on the way accompanied with a howler wind and it will be interesting to see tomorrow's landscape.

Back to work - see ya later

If "snow management" was an event at the Winter Olympics, you'd have the GOLD, McQ.
