This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Legend 151 Angler - Feedback

Post by Legend 151 »

Hello All

I am looking to purchase a new Legend 151 with a 40 h.p. Merc 4-stroke.

Any feedback good or bad on the package is appreciated.

I had a Legend 151 Viper which I bought new in 02 and sold a couple years ago. I really liked the boat, but it was seriously underpowered as it only had a 25hp. A 40 HP would give you much better performance, especially with more than one person in the boat, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn't buy a new boat without a motor that matched the max hp rating for the hull, which I believe is 50hp for the 151.

i'm holding back on buying a new hull as it's rated for a 75hp and i only have a 60hp.

maxing out your hp is an ABSOLUTE must ... it's not just for "speed". many think, awe, i've been fishing out of a canoe or a small boat w/ a 9.9 for 20 years, i dont need to max out....

but folks dont understand how a boat performs when it is underpowered.

in short, underpowering your boat that is going to be used on any body of water that can "blow up" is dangerous.

I looked at buying the same boat 2yrs ago. I went and looked at the Lund Rebel 1625 SS XL for the sake of comparison, and was blown away. I haven't priced a new Lund or a new Legend this year, but I can tell you that the long term value of the Lund was much better. The Rebel line has grown considerably, and they have several different packages available. I suggest you take a good look at those boats before you make any decisions. Feel free to PM with any questions.

Not sure if you're sold ont he Legend, but Laurentian Marine has just received about 1 month ago a pre-owned (2005 I believe) Princecraft 165 SC with 75 HP Optimax. They were asking $13K at the boat show and it was still available when I left I do believe, so if anyone is interested, please feel free to give them a shout at 613-526-5622 and ask for either Doug or Wayne. I haven't seen it but apparently it is in "emaculate" condition.

Tell them Bobber sent ya and to be nice to ya, or I'll have to go down there and straighten them out. :)

cheers,

Since the thread seems to be headed this way... I'll throw down my two cents, and expect change.. :0

Last year I wanted a boat. My #1 requirement was simply having the highest levels of reliability and lowest levels of maintenance.

This lead me to Honda. Period. Everything else simply didn't measure up. Loads of claims of this product is "now" better, etc, etc.. but 25years ago, Honda was reliable and low maintenance, and they still are today... Nothing touches that.

When it came to boats there were really a few choices... but I only found one boat+honda combo which was a Lund. Also a top-pick by most.

I got the 1625 Classic SS LUND, 2008 anniversary edition. The boat reminds me of a volvo. Boxy bug good. I'd have gotten a Princecraft + Honda in a second, but could not find one. I loved the lines and finish on the princecraft above all other boats....

The toss-up for me was lowe+yamaha or lund+honda. I love my honda.
