Steelies???

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Steelies???

Post by Wired leader »

So...It's been many years since I fished regularly, but I've dusted off my gear & boxes and have decided to come out of retirement.
Anyway, ....Years ago, some friends and I used to go down to Port Hope for the season opener of the Steelhead.
I am thinking about maybe making a trip there this year and since I haven't been there in years, I am wondering if there are still any good accessible spots on the Ganny?. I'm not asking for secret spots, but just wondering if there are still decent spots to access the river(parking, etc.)
We also fished factory creek in Cobourg, but I suspect that little park is still the same.
Hope the warm weather doesn't affect the spring run too much.

Anyone?

After the season opens, the Ganaraska is open to the public from the mouth at lake Ontario to about a kilometer above highway 401. There is a small area closed to fishing just above, and a few hundred meters below, the Corbett dam. There is also another mile or so that you can fish upstream of the Sylvan Glen road bridge.

Factory creek hasn't changed. Neverfished it much myself.

If this weather keeps up, there won't be much around by opener.

I do remember that.
I remember guys standing on both sides, shoulder to shoulder almost, at the ladder just in from the lake...everyone with a 12 foot rod.....totally crazy!

Thanks for the info guys.
The weather is likely gonna play havoc with everything this year, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out. Certainly it will affect fishing for some species greater than others.

Hey guy's
I live in Port Hope and was just down to the fish ladder yesterday. They have lifted over 4100 fish to date which is alot for this early but with this warm weather and low water level it may be tough fishing. Yes it can be a zoo down there on opener's with people setting up RV's, tents, campers and whatever else ya got. Luckily for me i have a stretch of pivate property to fish...ops...did i just say that out loud..LOL!

Good luck to all if ya make it down!!

cheers.
