Tube jig heaven

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Tube jig heaven

Post by Fishin Musician »

My beautiful wife and children left me for the weekend to visit the inlaws. May 1st was also my birthday. So was does someone like me do.

Well I went fishing. I decided to continue on my hunt for crappie it took some time but they finally started to bite and bite well for a good hour. I did manage to pull in about 20. I was fishing along the Rideau River South of Manotick in various spots. We all know what spots we are talking about from shore. I had a blast not only catching crappie and blue gils and seemed that everything else wanted my 1/32 onz tube jig as well. I caught 5 00S large mouths, 2 Northern Pike all released quickly no photos.

Just before I decided to go home my line got tangled in my real so I attempted to untangle it and left my little tube jig in the water, as I am untangling my line I feel it start to move, God Dam sun fish I thought to myself I finally got some of line free and set the hook. Well that was no sun fish, my 5 foot ultra light was bent over like mad. Line still stuck in the bail finally got it free. This thing on the end of the line was mad and it was taking line like there was no tomorrow. I fought the thing for a good 20 minutes and got it close to shore to see it was a huge muskie it was not quite 48" but my guess was 42". I get it close to shore head out of the water it then gives a head shake and spits out the little tube jig and off it went. Wow what a battle on an ultra lite and 6 lb test.

Great weekend of fishing can't wait for next week when pike an walleye open up, I will be the guy fishing from shore with a 1/32 onz tube jig. 8) I may use a slighter larger rod though might make it a bit easier.

Sounds like you had a great weekend and BD. Congrats

I swear I've seen and heard of more people catching them from under one of those bridges that next time I'm there I might just beach it and fish from shore.
