I was wondering if anyone out there had any information on these two lakes in the Pontiac.
Specifically, I'm interested in fishing them for bass during the summer and was hoping that there are public launches on either one, or both of them. How are they to navigate? Any shoals, hazards one needs to be wary of?
Any information would be greatly appreciated
Lac Leslie, Lac Thorne Bass Fishing??
Leslie lake is full of small mouth. There is only one launch at the end of the lake in the campground, I'm sure there is a fee to use it. There are two shoals to watch out for. Both are on either end of the narrow section of the lake, but fishing right off them can being pretty good. The laker fishing has been rather slow the last couple of years, but they are there.
Lac Leslie
There are some large mouth in there also. Not far from the launch on the right side. There are sone fallen trees in the water.
As far as the launch goes, be careful. It is best to have a 4X4. It is a gravel launch. And if you slip off the gravel your car drops about 8 inches. I got stuck with my car one time when I slipped off. Not fun sitting there with your car slowly filling up with water. There is a fee. Here is the link for the park. Which by the way, is a great place to camp. We love this place. The beach is fantastic.

When you mention, "...if you slip off the gravel..." are you talking about slipping off the back of the launch, or the side of the launch?
I have a bigger boat, 18.5ft, with a relatively wide trailer (100"), and tow with a V8 Toyota 4Runner AWD, is the launch good enough to accommadate this setup? Or is the launch meant for smaller boats and trailers? Trying to make sure I don't drive there just to ruin the equipment.
Thanks again.
I do not think you will have a problem, since you have a 4X4. I drive a car, and one of my back tires went off the side of the launch. Once that happened, the front tires just started spinning in the gravel. My own fault. I sat there while it slowly filled with water, and my son ran to get my wife. Then she got behind the wheel and I pushed. We got it out. A little wet though. LOL! It is just sand on either side, so I don't think you would damage anything.
Leslie Lake has a very shallow shore, very gradual. So you have to be very careful. I did see some bigger boats on there though.
Just give the campsite a call, they will be able to tell you for sure if your setup is too big. They told me I was okay to launch with a car. As I said, it was my own fault that I slipped off. That was the only time that ever happened to me.
