baitcasting reel

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

baitcasting reel

Post by Lackey »

Hey guys, just looking for some input. I fish exclusively with spinning reels but thought i might try out a baitcaster just for fun. What is a good entry reel? i want something that will be a good beginner reel but not a cheap piece of crap either.

I'll echo the Shimano Citica....it gives you an idea what you are dealing with and wont be frustrated by a less quality reel....that's what my buddy at work bought for his first....he is still getting used to using a BC but it certainly isn't the reels fault....

Give Shaun a call at Bennett's Bait and Tackle....he has em for sure....at least he did last time I was in.

Me too I picked a Citica at the Carp Show and it is a really nice reel.

Check out the classified ads on this site, not sure what is available now but I grabbed a couple of used, but well maintained, curados last year for $50 a piece. One of the benefits about buying off ads from sites like this is that the people take fishing seriously so the equipment is good quality and usually taken care of.

I have them at Paddletales. Spooling and a quick lesson on setup and casting are included. :D

I wouldn't consider the Citica is an entry level reel for most people at $150. I would try out an Abu Garci Silver Max ($70), these are the biggest bang for the buck out there right now in my opinion. Lebarons and I believe Ed sell them. Check it out.
