Who goes fishing and comes back with only bird photos!?!

No this is not a BA bash, but his disease is spreading.

Got out the other day for some more Laker action where I had great luck only a couple weeks ago. Weather was great, actually glad the wind picked up and the clouds started rolling or I might have been roasted alive. Started off great with another slow cruise down the creek to the spot.



Just as we get to the Lake we see something perched on the log right in the middle of the creek....no couldn't be.





Sure as heck looks like one to me.



A Bald Eagle am I in B.C. or New Brunswick nope Southern Quebec. We had seen a pair of big birds a month ago but never really got close enough to make a call as to what they were. First for me in either Ontario or Quebec.

I'm no expert but this one seemed a little ackward and unsure of himself making me think he is still quite young. He actually bottomed out in the water when he leaped from the log. The big woosh as he flapped his wings to get some air under him was louder then you would think and impressive.



Oh yeah we got to fish this lake all day to plus have the eagle follow us around for the better part of the morning. Not a bad Friday in my books.



Sadly only two small ones all day one being right around 40cm but still not big enough to take a chance. Not sure if it has anything to do with recent discussions but the camera wasn't even pulled out for either fish....not that there's anything wrong with that

I too have seen more bald eagles this year. More than usual. And all on western-Qc lakes.

I've seen bald eagles around the Elliot Islands on the Ottawa west of Arnprior where the river narrows.

Growing up in Thunder Bay (NW Ontario for those that are unsure) about 16+ hours drive from Ottawa, I saw thousands of bald eagles and massive hawks. Now that I've moved to this region though, their sightings are few and far between, and "you don't know what you got 'til its gone". Canada Geese, while beautiful, just don't compare (especially when they crap all over the golf course and local parks!).

Beautiful bald eagle -- and mature at that. The "bald" appearance comes with maturity, much like people.

These great birds are certainly on a strong comeback. Wolfe Lake has a yearly nesting pair in a huge white pine, and last year there were 3 baby eagles fledged from the nest.

Nice experience for you, even without the fish. I'd bet you were in the eagle's favorite spot.

BALD EAGLE PHOTOS
All of our Bald Eagle photos were captured in the Alaska wild, mostly on the Kenai Peninsula. It is a pleasure to watch such magnificent birds. I am fortunate to live in a place with a large population of Eagles. There are numerous nests in and around Seward, and it is not uncommon to have Eagles sitting in the tree near our house, and on occasion, in our backyard.



A mature Bald Eagle is easily recognized by its white head. Juvenile bald eagles are a mixture of brown and white and will not develop adult plumage, including the white head feathers, until they reach maturity at 4 to 5 years of age. With a wing span of up to 7.5 feet and weighing between 8 to 14 pounds the Bald Eagle is Alaska's largest resident bird of prey.

Yes its true Virginia, we do have lots of Bald Eagles. the Potomac River below DC is loaded with Eagles and Ospreys. We had a pair of eagles nesting on one of the bridges between VA and District. They were named George and Martha. After a year another female came in and "removed" Martha from the family. Soon after Martha joined 1st wives club and was heard to have been mounting a counter-offensive. Thus, George and his floozy left the bridge and went into hiding. Stay tuned for updates....
