walleye spots in ottawa from shore

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

walleye spots in ottawa from shore

Post by tbone1088 »

hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone here could help me out and point me toward some decent walleye spots in the ottawa area? Unfortunately I dont have a boat, so I know the options are pretty limited. I probably know all the spots you guys will mention, so if you could give me some techniques that will be great too... I usually go out at dusk and get a lil lucky once in awhile, but not with any consistency. Usually I am using tubes and heavier jig heads to stay on bottom in the heavy current, seems to be what works best. If you dont feel comfortable posting good spots, email me ... tbone1088@hotmail.com, we can trade spots, I know a TON of good bass spots and pike and musky in the ottawa area...
thanks for your help guys
GOOD FISHING !!!

Try using 3" Power Minnows hooked through the nose with a #2 circle hook. Add an inline split shot (just heavy enough to get it down) 8" from the hook.

You might also consider using crawlers and "Slow Death" hooks.

You should consider using a fluorocarbon line or leader since most of the water around the Ottawa area is quite clear. There are quite a few walleye spots in Ottawa.
manotick mill
hogs back
rideau falls
black rapids
petrie island
where greens creek enters the ottawa
rideau at Carleton university
jock river landing
walleye are also occasionally caught at dick bell park, Britannia stone piers, Victoria island, where the canal enters the ottawa, mooney's bay, bate island. Have fun.

Nooo you have given out all the hot spots in Ottawa! LOL I commend you, we should share more like this! I'll also add Long Island Locks on the rapid side and anywhere along the Rideau in Manotick.

Ottawa walleye

Post by MississippiMatt »

The Bronson bridge (Carlton U/Brewers park area) can yeild some good results. I hooked a walleye there 2 weeks ago.

Another spot 20 minutes outside of ottawa that has worked for me is a small bridge in Galetta. The Mississippi river flows through the area with a heavy current leading to some falls. The bridge is just before the falls under a train bridge. I used a floating storm thin fin, cast it off the bridge and let about 150 feet of line spool off in the current and let the current control the lures action and had 2 walleye in 35 minutes.

thanks for the spots guys, I have tried pretty much all of them with no luck though lol... i'm thinking maybe im fishing too fast for them or something. Im getting a rod with fluorocarbon line on it soon though, maybe that will make a big difference. How deep do you guys think i should be fishing for them? I know in the day they like to sit in the deeper holes to avoid the sunlight, but at nighttime how shallow do they go? What kind of bottom (rock or weed) should i be fishing at night? It always seems like I will have one great night and catch a limit, then won;t catch anymore for like a month lol!!!! Maybe its supposed to be that hard to keep the beginners away hahaha.

Absolute best tip that I can give is to try the same areas in the evening until sunset.
