Me and my brother got out this morning for some muskie fishing. The fog was so thick you couldn't see nothing, but we were the only ones on the water until 10. The day started out pretty slow with a strike early in the morning that didn't hook up, and then my brother caught a little wee guy. My camera that quit working on sunday but started to work on tuesday now doesn't work again so we didn't get a pic, but now for the meat and potatoes of the story. We had to be off the water by 10:30 so my bro's girlfriend could make it to her job interview, so we are on are way back to my grampas place (where i keep the boat) and decided to stop at a good spot for one last cast. I fire out my double cowgirl (black skirt with brass blades) and im burning it back when I see a submarine behind my lure right below the surface. The way the sun was shining you could see her perfect. I yell at my bro, hey look at this monster behind my lure and his mouth hits the floor of the boat. I was a good 30 yards out and she followed right to the boat, I execute a perfect figure 8, she follows and takes a huge swipe at and gets nothing but skirt. I can't believe it, I can still see her but she is no longer interested in the figure 8. Biggest muskie I have ever saw in the rideau yet, and she was gone just as quick as she came. So I've read a few articles on muskie fishing and they say to quickly get a soft plastic back out there and see it the fish will eat. Then my bro says come on man we have to go, or she will be late for her interview.
the camera is going for a swim I think, I seen Dave Mercer advertising this camera that is completely waterproof that will even take pictures under water. I think it will be my next purchase.
I honestly feel your pain Nips, you just brought back bad memories of my last 3 trips with my musky partner, we've each had 2 giants on in the last 3 trips, one of them would have been my wall fish, but through either sheer incompetence or bad luck we've found a way to lose all 4, this could have been our best year in 4 years of musky fishing, absolutely heartbreaking , frustrating, I've had nightmares this past week of being pantsed by giant muskies.
two ways to look at it, only one cast to get a giant or when will the next one come by....
Nice report. I am not a ski guy but I read that instead of figure 8, you can try just opening the bail and letting the lure sink. According to the author, this is more effective than Fig-8.
As for underwater cam, another memeber in FH uses this and seems to take very good underwater pics:
"The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."

In my experiences with the figure 8, slowing down or stopping into the figure 8 has not proved successful. The best thing you can do is speed up into the figure 8, but im sure it depends on the mood of the fish.
Get a spare battery for the camera mine dosent last very long and gives out without much warning. I use mine when its raining but I prefer my old cannon which has a viewfinder and takes AA batteries
I love golf it keeps thousands of unworthy off the water

Great story and well told, good luck tonight.
I have the Fujifilm camera, it is the one Dave Mercer shows.
I agree, get an extra battery as out of the box the one that comes with it doesn't last long. Also get a floating strap ($25.00), this camera takes great underwater video, but sinks like a stone if you drop it.

Your old camera may come back around when totaly dry. My mp3 player which I use only while cutting 2 acres of grass fell out of my shirt pocket into a bird bath while moving it. I went into town and bought a new one and 2 days later the old one was working fine.
