River boat launch QC side

Hey guys,

I've been browsing the board all summer and finally decided to register...hehe...Typical newbie starting with a question!

It's my first year with a boat and I've been trying a couple of spots here and there. I was able to get a couple of solid Walleye trips this year (gouin) but in the last couple of weeks I've been trying the Ottawa river and I've been skunked...1 good smb and a perch!

I've been fishing more around the city area, dropping the boat at the labrosse launch and going up to petrie island at max.

Tomorrow I'm taking the day off with a buddy and we are thinking for trying the river...again...but this time we want to go a little lower so I was wondering if you know where the boat launch are located...

I know there's one at the Masson/Rockland ferry...But I'm not sure in what kind of shape it's in...

Is there a launch a little further down...Stinky Thurso?? I think there's one in Papineauville...

I would also consider crossing over if the fish are closer! Rockland has a launch...does Wendover have one?

My boat is a 17.5 full console, so I assume it can get in just about any boat launch.

Now I know there's fish in that @#$@$ river, tomorrow I will find them!

PS: It's funny usually I go out target Bass, or Pike....but tomorrow I'm targeting FISH!!

Plaisance has a launch. I think it is $5 that you drop into a mail box type thing. Good launch... a little on the steep side.

Masson Launch is better in my opinion... but it all depends where on that open sewer that passes for a river you want to hit.

If I were you... I would go the other direction. North. Launch at Norway Bay. AMAZING launch... docks... free parking. Nice town... great water to discover. You are above the Quyon dam and the fish can be eaten more than once a month and the water is higher than on most other places on the Ottawa. You wont have to treat the bilge water as toxic waste...

Stick to the Nav markers @ WOT or you will loose your skeg!

About 45 minutes on the 148 past Aylmer...

If you do it, you wont regret it. Big pike... musky... LM and SM bass, Gar... its all there!

I wouldn't mind driving there, if the odds are better but would you have any recommendations on where to explore...when you turn left off the launch there' seems to be some good little bays...but other than that...I'm not to sure...

PS: I don't intend to keep any fishes either way! haha

If you dont want to go as far as Norway bay the launch at Quyon is free and good. The water is better above Ottawa but it has been cloudy since last weekends heavy rains. Also be careful on the Quebec side of the river you have all sorts of dead heads and cribs in the water. Head to the power lines and try the edge on either side ( no cribs in that section and some deep water), if that does not work for you fish the tip of Mohr island in the tall weeds. You are more or less safe from cribs and dead heads on the ontario side of the river, in fact on Saturday afternoon they must of been racing or something as I saw a bunch of big high powered speed boats going up and down? Aylmer marina is an option as well.
You catch more and bigger Musky in my opinion down past Orleans but we have a lot of bass and Walleye up in this section. I dont like to eat the fish this time of year but I am sure the Walleye and even the Catfish are fine to eat.

I'll have to talk to my fishing partner and see where we'll head out...

Wrexxer, I would second Cprince's recommendation for Norway Bay. Have fished there for 25+ years and very rarely have I ever been blanked. Target just about anything want, Musky/Pike, SMB, walleye. If you are so inclined you can also chase the big channel catfish in deeper waters. Personally I prefer to go west from Norway Bay (up river), but east is a very close second. Stay on the Quebec side for best results. Also get a map and go slow. The rock shoals will come out of nowhere. Good luck and enjoy.

PS: The ramp at Norway Bay is gated and opens at 8:00am and closes at 8:00PM in the summer. Call the township at 819-647-5555 to confirm times.

Totally agree with Pasquini... head west (I thought was north... but it is west - north - west....? ) great fishing in there and awesome bays...

There are some skeg eaters... just ask Mike!

There have been signs posted for years about the dock opening at a certain time... but I have been there earlier than Jesus... and never a problem, I have never seen that gate closed. Just be aware that it is a bit of a walk to the parking lot. about 3 or 4 city blocks equivalent.

Where did you get the maps for the river, I have the Navionic package for my LMS522 and I have every freaking lakes around...even the smallest one but no river...

Unless they are in the Ontario folder? Damn it I gotta check that! LOL
