Ottawa river skunked me!!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

They really should be specific about the Ottawa River... That could be anywhere from Oka up to Tamiskaming! The stretches of river are SOOOOo different when fishing it is like being on different bodies of water completely.

Soo... where were they fishing?

They launched out of Rockland....so as far west as Parliament Hill and as far east as the next Carillon I'm guessing.

My buddy bagged 13+ pounds in the Hawkesbury area and said there was only a couple other boats that went out that far.

Most likely fished Lochabar, Black Bay, Bay Clement, OPP Bay, Wendover and maybe as far as Montebello (Bay des Arcand).

Notice I didn't say McBay? Everyone knows BB444 cleaned the place out. I even heard he has a monster freezer and like chinese food.

Nice JWhite!!

Good on them catching that kind of quality on that stretch under the current chocolatemilk conditions!

They didn't go to MacBay because of the Sunfire blocking the inlet.

Then headed to lochaber bay which had all the making of crazy spot. Spent about an hour in there and only got 1 descent hit but it was missed.

After 3 times on this river I swear there are no fish in there...flipped jigs, crazy minnows, walked tubes, tones of spinner/buzz baits. I actually tried stuff I didn't even know I owned lol! Even tried a peperette!!!!

I'm done with the river, unless I want to go for an hour or 2 after work since it's so close...but no more fishing days!!

Thanks to the river I have no more confidence in my fishing skills lol... The little confidence I had is gone hehehe
I have shared your pain on more than one occasion.

The Ottawa river near Rockland has got to be one of most frustrating areas when it comes to bass fishing due to its inconsistency.

There are some giant bass in the area, caught my biggest ever in Lochaber, fished more than one tournament weighing in +/-20lbs bags. For every good day I've had there, I'm sure I've had two or three brutal days, including getting skunked far too often to mention over the years. During a Pro Bass Quebec two day classic, we weighed in just under 20lbs on the first day only to get something like a 3lb bag the next day. Talk about feeling devastated!!

I haven't fished there in two seasons, may as well be three as I don't see myself heading out there this year. I can't say that I miss too much either.

It sounds like you may need a break from it, there are a ton of more consistent bass waters available. Never hurts to try it from time to time though, if I'm not mistaken there was a 7lb+ largemouth caught at a Pro Bass Canada tournament this year and that team didn't even finish in the money. There's that inconsistency thing again!

Been there and done that. Fished out of Arnprior about 1 1/2 weeks ago, got 14 Walleye, 1 Muskie, and a pile of cats. Went out yesterday
and got 2 Walleye, 1 Sauger, and a Bass from the same spot. Ottawa River is a fantastic fishery but sometimes the fish just aren't biting.
The wind was from the east on the Ottawa River yesterday. Never do really well with an east wind.

Weird, I actually had a decent night on the Ottawa, in spite of the east wind, except for the walleye. Bruce, Neurotic (Jayson) and I got a 7 pike, 3 smallies and a couple cats. Not bad for an exploration mission.
