a recent time ago, i was out with a friend for bass and unfortunately rockets kept coming out of no where. this one how ever had this little weird deformation in which i was wondering about. I couldn't find anything on this so I decided to ask here.
would a fish be safe to eat with something like this on it?
Anyway, in summary it looks like it is caused by a virus that causes cancer like sores. In my opinion, you might want to send your image to the MNR or to OFAH and let them know where you caught the fish. If that is indeed what it is, the pike population there might be in trouble.
Fishing is a heritage we need to teach. Take a kid fishing! And take me too while you're at it.
I echo hollywood ...this resembles the growths that used to be on lakers down off Kingston back in the days when the waters were really polluted by industry ... thankfully much of the is cleared up ... I'm going by what a guide told us when we took a charter there once ... the fish we caught were for the most part pretty clean except for some small ones
I catch fish like that all the time at petrie and have down near manotick as well.. Its almost on every pike ive caught at petrie and waterways that feed off the ottawa river.
Thanks for the feedback guys.. This fish we actually pulled out of an area down on Calabogie Lake.. Which to me has always seemed to catch me as quite a clean lake! Im interested to figure out what it ends up being!
