Meech Lake finally produces some Largies

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Meech Lake finally produces some Largies

Post by Spezza_Fan »

So I've been on the hunt for some decent shore fishing spots in the Aylmer and surrounding areas and a friend of mine direceted me towards the Gatineau Park. I've gone to two different spots on Meech and I've only caught a handfull of fish and of those only one over a pound. I've been off for the past 5 days and I wanted to end my "vacation" with a little fishing. Yesterdays weather was perfect so my brother and I headed out to Meech to try and find some bigger fish. We got there around 5pm and fished until 8pm. We were fishing in a prime spot in 2 feet of water in front of a 4-8 foot dropoff with a bit of vegetation. Perfect conditions right? Nope. Nothing. For an hour and a half we threw everything from topwater chugbugs, buzzbaits, cranks and senkos. I only had one nice hit on the buzzbait. My bro wanted to head back to the river where we caught some fish but I told him to wait. This was a perfect spot. As soon as the sun came down over the mountain the fish started attacking. Cast after cast we were getting hits. It probably had something to do with the hot weather but once it cooled down we got some nice fish. Biggest one of the day was a nice 2 pound smallie (the only one that was caught). All the other were nice Largies that varied from 1/2 pounders to a couple of nice 1+ pounders. Here's a shot I took of my brother with one of his nice Largies. We know the lake can produces some bigger fish so we will go back sometime soon to test the water out again. At least now we know where the fish are.

Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."

Just call your service provider and have them ship it to you. It takes 5-7 business days.

What else do you expect? It's a fishing forum isn't it? If you guys are able to catch some monsters using my reports I'll be more than happy for you. That's what Fish Hawk is all about.
