Charleston trip

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Charleston trip

Post by bassman »

Hello, has anyone been on Charleston Lake(north of gan) recently, I'm heading up there for a week of fishing and was wondering how the fishing has been lately.

Regards,

It was a warmer than normal summer here, with a brief hot spell in early Sept. Surface temps on the lake were >normal up until about 1 week ago, but since then the water temp has dropped rapidly, surface is back to normal for this time of year. With the water temp drop, the smallies are starting to really strap on the feedbag.

Wind!! It has been ridiculous this summer. Even at 4am the wind is often gusting. We had very few days with flat water, and I had more then a few whitecap hopping rides across Big Water. Quite a few days I was unable to drop-shot or even jig properly, too much wind.

Overall bass numbers are good. Many 2-4 lb fish with the occasional bigger one, which is somewhat typical for Charleston.

Thanks for the info. I was up there for a week in July and got lucky had only a couple of days of wind. I was able to find a couple of new areas one of them was one of those spots within a spot and caught over 2 dozen largies in just a couple of hours.

Down towards Outlet you'll get into LM, but the other 90% of the lake, (save for a few weedy bays), Smallmouth rule.
