Port Hope Salmon Run

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Port Hope Salmon Run

Post by TTranv »

Hey everyone on fish-hawk, I just started fishing this summer, and have only been fishing small and large mouth bass which are very fun to fish, but I want to try fishing something else as well. What has really interested me recently is the salmon run at Port Hope and Ganny.

I haven't gotten a chance to go there yet, but I get a study break next week (oct 24 - 31) and would like to give it a try if there's still a lot of fish there. I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's worth wild to go next week? I'm from Ottawa so it's about a 3hr drive.

Also, does anyone know when it ends, as in when the salmon are done biting or leave? And what kind of bait should I use when fishing there?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't fished it in years but the Salmon run is likely done. You might get some Browns or even Lakers now. The Steelhead go for a while. Be advised, you can only fish the month of the river. From the south side of the CPR bridge to the lake.

Check the regs....http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/Le ... 63615.html

Doeun, around what day did you go to the ganny this year? I'd like to know so I can plan it out better next year. And for napanee, are you able to fish just anywhere along the river?

If I was going to go salmon or trout fishing in Lake Ontario tributarys I'd be going to Pulaski, Ny and fishing the Salmon River or some of the other smaller tribs. in the area.
