Quinte December 4th

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Quinte December 4th

Post by JimW »

Well my buddy and I left the Ottawa area early Sat morning for our 3rd trip to Quinte this fall. We launched at the ferry around 7:30am and decided to start East of the ferry since we have never fished west before. After several hours of washing lures and only seeming to be marking very deep fish. We packed up and ran west of the ferry and started trolling after about half an hour we have our first eye which unfortunately comes off just behind the boat.

Not too long after I land a nice chunky 8 pounder and atleast the skunk is off. :D We tried jigging for awhile but then went back to trolling. Later in the afternoon we lost another fish  and that was it for the day. One for 3 not great but atleast we were not skunked.

Four days fishing the bay this fall, which brings my lifetime total to 8 days of Quinte fall fishing, my buddy and I got a few PBs, a 12 pounder as our biggest this year and a few nice eater sized fish. So not too bad. I`m defiinitely hooked on Quinte gold, looking forward to the ice season.

Good luck to everyone out there.

Thanks Maple.

If you want to head down to Quinte for some icefishing again this year just let me know. I'm hoping to be down there by early January at the lastest if the conditions are safe.

Cheers,

Thanks for the report JimW... With every Quinte report where people talk about 10lb ++ walleye with a straight face... I keep thinking about getting down there sometime.

I have to ask though... I often hear about Quinte being a bugger for ice safety... How far behind other lakes is Quinte. In other words... lets say the first day you see a weekend full of trucks and shacks out on the ice on the Mississippi... generally speaking... how long after that is Quinte "safe"?

Cprince.

I'm no expert, nor would I ask anyone to walk on questionable ice. But if you want to find out about Quinte ice condition, the local tackle shops or guides will give current ice info. Just phone and ask. Or check the Quinte forum.

Since there is considerable current in the narrow parts of the bay, the wider regions tend to have thicker ice. Big Bay is a safer bet for instance. Nice and still. I never drive, always walk with a spud. (No sled)

As always though. BE SAFE.

We'll get there soon Jim :D

Nice work Jim, we went 2 for 3 on Saturday in about 4 hrs.
I got my PB and my cousin got his first ever fall hawg which was also a PB.
Here are a couple teaser pics for ya Craig, and yes you do need to come down here.
First one is my cousin with a 10lb 3oz and second is me with an 11lb even.

Nice looking fish there F_H, plus I'm jealous... a nice full windshield and top. We were a "tad chilly" by the end of the day in our side console boat.

Craig,

Last year was my first year ice fishing Quinte so I don't have any past experiences to judge a typical ice fishing season on Quinte. Last winter my first trip to quinte was on January 2nd we were fishing the eastern part of the bay and went out with a guide, since it was my first time ice fishing on the Bay.

I have the first week of January off work, so I am hoping the ice will be good as I hope to spend a couple days on the bay that week if not sooner.

My first trip out will probably be with a guide again this year to get some more tips on Quinte jigging techniques, fish movements, locations and ice conditions, before I venture out alone with friends.
