Your ice fishing go to lure ? ? ?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Your ice fishing go to lure ? ? ?

Post by HotelTango »

Hi guys, Just wondering what some of you guys use while ice fishing for the following species. I received some gift certificates for Christmas and need some ideas on lures to buy.

Walleye
Crappie
Brookies
Lakers

Cheers all

Walleye - live minnows
Crappie - 1/8th jig tipped with wax worm or maggott
Brookies - live minnow or Swedish pimple tipped with a secret bait.
Lakers - white tube on an airplane jig in glow green or live bait. Also always set up one stationary tip up for lakers and one jigging rod. Move around a bit until you find their patern and follow it.
Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.

Walleye = Buckshot rattle spoon (also fav for white fish)
Crappie = Northland Fire Eye Grub tipped with minnow tail
Brook trout = jig a whopper Hawger spoon with a 6 inch dropper and worm.
Lakers = berkley power bait white tube tipped with a minnow.

walleye: Swedish Pimple, although they seem to like the Darters this year
crappie: still looking for a real solid artificial pattern, small live minnow is always a winner
lakers: size 40 williams wobler

Walleye=Swedish pimple for numbers and size, buckshot is great for larger walleyes, and the classic pickerel rig for numbers.
Tipped with one or two minnows.

Walleye-- buckshor with a 3"-8" florocarbon leader then a hook tiped with a minnow.
Crappie-- the panfish teaser toobs
Brookies-- walleye set-up with a little cleo
Lakers --large little cleo or silver spoon tiped with a minnow.
its not the fisherman that catches the fish,, its the gear,,,

or is it the other way around? oh well...

Thx for all the input, seems like lots of you guys like the buck-shots for the walleyes. I will definitely buy a few and try them out.

Cheers

There are going to be some pros at that Ice Fishing night on Thursday... Chances are, they would have some ideas on that!!!!

You also should make your way up to the QC side to get into some White Fish!!!

I have been following this thread closely... but no one is telling me what I need to catch big bass through the ice!!!

(Legal in QC)
