How To Handle a Muskie

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

How To Handle a Muskie

Post by TheDon »

I hate to be thaat guy but someone has to say something. When you catch a muskie, or any big fish that you are planning on releasing in good condition never hold it vertically. Also, them rolling in rocks, dirt, snow ect.. removes slime and makes them more susceptible to disease. Nice fish, and I assure you handle the next big fish with more respect, you'll be getting a lot more kudos around here

Why do some people feel they have the right to comment on the way people handle fish, just congratulate people on their fish and move. And to quote Musky Canada direction for catching fish in a follow up post based on the above observations!!! Well, where I fish Musky and other species has been over run by Musky Canada people (based on the stickers all over their cars and boats) this year who are ignorant, troll just meters for our boats, and have put the fish under so much pressure it has had a negative impact. To the guyy who caught the fish, well done, hope you catch more and handle the fish the way you want, because it's nobody else's concern. oh by the way look at what rivers in Eastern Ontario prior to 1938 actually had native musky populations, look at the report of when they were stocked, you may be surprised.

If by chance you are refering to my post...obviously it wasn't read....

Let me elaborate....

1) I said CONGRATS to those who have caught musky...

However....as a BTW....here is how you handle one properly in future...

No harm in that is there?

I was referring to your post on how to handle a musky.
I personally have no issue with what you posted.
A little knowledge goes a long way, and we're all here to learn and share.
I think we all just thought it was funny how someone had to create an account just to reiterate what you had already stated in a couple other threads.

i would love to see the guy who catches an accidental musky by himself hold it any other way and take a picture. I would also like to meet the person who catches a musky and doesnt take a picture of it. Fish are tough, they were here long before us. you probobly kill way more hitting them with your boat than people do handling them.

LOL!

Welcome to FH....Sarge!

Someone will always troll, create an account etc...

I'm happy for the dude...happy he caught one. Even IF by accident....

Just passing on a sticky, for gen knowledge for all, so that maybe the next guy who catches a musky accidentally goes..."Oh yeah...this is how I do it"....

Lots of fish die every day from ALL kinds of things....gut hooking, out of the water, boats, pollution blah, blah, blah....

HOWEVER....I cannot help if a fish swallowed my hook....
I don't control the pollution....
I don't police boaters.....

But I can help others by imparting knowledge....
Whether they choose to read/use it is up to them....

Here boys... have at it. Talk about how you handle a muskie... or musky.. or whatever.

No more hijacking reports. This is why many people would rather lurk than post reports... everybody is a critic.

In the future, if you cannot control your self and HAVE to comment on how someone is handling a fish, their kids or wives... start a new thread.
