Devil Lake near Westport question

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Devil Lake near Westport question

Post by BigC »

Is there a public launch?

Been searching the interweb and have so far come up empty. Buddy has rented a cottage and wants me to bring the boat over Saturday for some fishing. From what I can gather it could have lots of potential but would like to nail down a launch location before heading over.

Thanks in advance.

Hi BigC
I'm not sure about public launches but I spend a lot of time near the Westport area.

Depending on how big your boat is, there is a small gravel launch off Highway 10. I've seen people putting in smaller boats there before and some people park on the opposite side of the road. (You can see in the street view someone there).

Hope this helps! Good luck on Devil. I havent fished it but have heard good things.

That should work just fine, and not far from the rental at all.

Thanks Nathan

I've used that launch many times with boats upto 17', no problems at all...except no dock. Parking on the side of the road doesn't seem to ruffle any feathers. It's a beautiful clear, cold lake! It was hard to keep the 1lb smallies off the line long enough to find a bigger one. Largies and pike in the bays and weed beds. Apparently there are lakers in there too but I've not caught any.

Pretty well exactly what TheDL said. Still haven't given the lakers a try over that way yet but, in a couple places have found the deep bars just stacked on one another.

Great lake, just watch the parking, along the road is fine but check the signs, you may have to park up the road a piece ...not far... but not across from the launch

Good luck on Devil. That lake has some amazing smallmouth fishing as well as some giant pike!

Hi There is a boat ramp on Hwy 10 just about 6miles south of Westport. The boat ramp is good for bigger boats as well. I am quite familiar with the lake. The bass fishing and lake trout is excellent. Bass is especially good in the fall. Let me know if you need to know some of the hot spots for bass.
