Ice Reports - Ottawa River - Shirley's Bay

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Tough call and on driving on the ice and would be your call.
Yes there are other trucks out there and it depends on where in the bay you plan on going.
As for the Civic, the "road" out is not long but will take you out to where some of the huts are.

Play safe

If you have tracks on your quad you might be ok...I almost swamped my sled in slush here in Constance Bay a couple of days ago...if I was on my quad, I would have been in serious trouble..
Even with the tracks I was having a tough time in the slush on my lake. The biggest part of the problem was too much weight in the portable hut I was pulling and the slush building up in front of it. Stopped and fished for a bit, and the had a hell of a time getting moving again with all the frozen slush in the tracks. Should be even more fun next weekend if we get the predicted amount of snow this week

Is the road wide enough for people to park on it and still enough room for Mr.Plow to get by on his way out to his shack?

Don't think it's that wide but people could find openings off the road to park easily....just not on the ice rink that the first hut on the road cleared out for his kids, that would just be mean!

Here's what Horseshoe Bay looks like....a lot of traffic today with trailers and shacks being pulled out on the ice..I definitely would not be parking so close together but that's me...

It really does make you wonder why people would park so close.
I get skitish when trucks are just going by me.....last thing i would want to do is stand where there are so many concentrated in such a small area

hello, this is my first time post. I plowed the road on Shirley's bay and if you take the first right on the road you will see an area on the right which was originally meant for ice rink but ice sunk a little so now can't be used so I think a parking area is perfect use for it.

Nice going Choke. You left early though.
The ice conditions don't look bad out there at all from what was being reported earlier. Looks like a truck could drive anywhere.

Looks like the bite is good at Shirley's. Was supposed to head out there tomorrow but with the rain we've pushed it back to Sunday afternoon.

It wouldn't surprise me with the high temps and 20mm of rain if it turns into a skating rink out there, with water on top. Better hope it drains off overnight or you may have to postpone. At least if it drains off you can use ice cleats or bring some sand or even better some ashes if you have any.

I hope it works out for you. Take some pics to post if you can. Cheers

Made it out from about 2-7pm yesterday. I usually only go out on Saturdays and didn't realize the bait shop closed early on Sundays so we were just using jigs. It was pretty slushy but was able to drive the Santa Fe FWD out there no problem. I got skunked but my buddy caught a small Walleye and Sauger. We each missed 1 or two as well. Hoping to head back out next week.
