Soft water is coming...

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Well, drunk boaters are a downside after the ice melts...

But...I'm a transplanted Texan, living in Ottawa for the last 3 years. I'm not winter fishing material. I dream of the day when spring really arrives and the ice is gone so I can get out there on the water again. I'll put up with the drunk boaters and jet skis.

Sounds like culture shock.

But think of the bragging rights you have when you tell folks back in Texas about the cold and snow we have had this winter!

Tell me about it! This is my 3rd winter here, and I'm still in shock. I can't believe we're still getting freezing temps and snowstorms this late in the year.

But when summer comes, I get my laughs in...my Canadian friends always poke fun of me because I suffer in the winter, but then they start complaining about the summer heat, and I can't help but chuckle...my friend, the hottest afternoon in the middle of an Ottawa summer is comparable to a nice June morning in Houston, Texas.

But no one back home will ever be able to tell me I've never experienced a real winter!

Yep.

I HATE the heat! And so when friends go south in the winter I question their sanity. I would rather have minus thirty than plus thirty any time! You can always put on more clothes, but.....................there is a limit to how many you can remove.

You are not the first person to suggest that I am "different"..............

Yes I love the Yukon and Alaska, have spent a fair bit of time up north here and there. Drank the sour toe cocktail in Dawson, hunted moose at the end of the road in Keno City, fished here and there in both Yukon and Alaska. GORGEOUS country! And I am going back next fall to hunt and fish. But I could not afford to live up there because I would be single and have to give 50% of my pension to my wife, who would stay down here!

And talking about mosquitoes (or black flies or deer flies, or bugs), there's no flies around right now and that's a wonderful thing! :D
