Just a reminder to everyone
With ice out approaching ever so slowly and everyone getting excited about getting out on the water in there boats. Just remember to always where a life jacket and kill switch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UEETjztLqI this should help with your decision to wear them or not.

Greg looks a little banged up at the end there....boat seems fine though
Re: Just a reminder to everyone
This guy is lucky to still have his life. There were a few times before the crash you can see he was losing control and he still had it on full throttle. Videos like this really tick me off, because he can not only hurt himself but someone else that is unlucky enough to share the water with him. I have been on a boat that went that speed and was not enjoying it at all... in fact I think there should be speed restrictions on boats just like they do in nascar for safety purposes. The big bass tourneys have alot of anglers with boats that can go even faster than this one and they are all in a rush to beat each other to the "good spots". Fishing is not a contact sport, how about we take as much of the risk out of it as we possibly can???

I'm with tbone on this one....I think the bigger lesson in this video is not to drive your boat like a complete moron at such ridiculous speeds....the life jacket and kill switch is just a bonus lesson, that life jacket wouldn't have done squat for that guy had the boat landed on his head after he was ejected.

Re: Just a reminder to everyone
Glad he's alive and all but a number of sayings came into my head after I saw this:
If he were any more stupid, he'd have to be watered twice a week.
If you give him a penny for his thoughts, you'd get change.
If brains were taxed, he'd get a rebate.
The wheel is turning, but the hamster is dead.
Stupid? He's reached rock bottom and has started to dig.
He would be out of his depth in a parking lot puddle.
He has serious delusions of adequacy.
He sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.
He's depriving a village somewhere of an idiot.
He's a gross ignoramus - 144 times worse than an ordinary ignoramus.
The gates are down, the lights are flashing, but the train isn't coming.
He's as sharp as a sack of wet mice.
He's not the sharpest spoon in the drawer

some of the best quotes I've heard in a long time and that guy on the boat fits them all .If he were any more stupid, he'd have to be watered twice a week.

Re: Just a reminder to everyone
I personally don't understand the point of having a 250-300 horsepower motor. I have a 150 that gets my boat up to 50-55 MPH and that is fast enough for me and I don't trim it up at all like some people do. Just doesn't make sense to me.
Re: Just a reminder to everyone
For most its a pee pee contest to see who can go the fastest, in tournaments it's even worse because they justify the wreckless driving by telling themselves they have to be first to get to a certain spot... sooner or later a real bad accident is going to happen and then regulations will be put in, just wish they had the foresight to do it NOW!!!
Re: Just a reminder to everyone
LOL
In most male dominated things like fishing, cars, golf etc it usually is the case that folks go crazy to make up for "inadequacies".
I agree. Most of the time its so damn overkill its not funny.
600hp car? Really? Take that baby over 120km/h on the hwy and you'll be fined. So all that money for power and speed and you can't legally use it.
300hp boat motor so that you can burn as much gas as possible and be the fastest? I thought the purpose of tournaments was to have the biggest weight. I live on the Miss and I can tell you big bass are caught in multiple areas...not just one part of the lake.
Ok rant over. But totally agreed on idiots who drivew boats like this.

Re: Just a reminder to everyone
What I saw was a guy who doesn't know how to control his rig. He was driving on the pad for most of that video so he was definitely going for speed. You need to listen to what the boat is telling you. If you need to make constant adjustments to the steering wheel, you better know what you are doing. If not, slow down!
The biggest issue with that whole video is the way he took that wave. There is no way in hell I would have ever taken that boat wake at what looked like full throttle on a terrible angle so that leads me to believe he is a novice at driving that boat and didn't have the common sense to back off on the throttle before it was too late.
I don't have a boat that goes near those speeds but when I do, you can guarantee I will be asking all of the people I know who have one for pointers and maybe a few ride alongs. These techniques take time to learn so educate yourself before killing yourself or someone else.
And I agree that Life Jackets and kill switches save lives but so does proper boat control and educated driving. If he would have been more knowledgable, he would not have needed the life jacket or kill switch in the first place.
Adam.

Re: Just a reminder to everyone
Accidents are unavoidable, and unfortunately happen everywhere and every day.
250HP motors are part of today’s reality. They are a tool like any other, and when used properly, securely and intelligently, I don’t see them being an issue.
If your purchasing a 75 000$ rig to “make up for inadequacies” or for a “pee pee contest” either you have too much money or you’re simply fishing for the wrong reasons.
Tournament anglers do not justify reckless driving nor do we promote tournament fishing as a contact sport.
We’ve always praised safety on the water, prevention and education.
