Are there still Bullheads/Barbotte opportunitites?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Are there still Bullheads/Barbotte opportunitites?

Post by FishAllDayMakeUpLies »

Hi everyone, I've talked my new girlfriend into going fishing with me or at least just to watch (what a nice girl eh? lol) and she has this phobia of catfish....just kidding. I want to take her out and let her see how much fun fishing can be and I want to find a spot where there will be lots of mudpout and a chance for other types if they are not there. Preferably not out near Casselman/Embrun etc, because she's used to that area and it wouldn't be new to her and would remove the "Sight-seeing" component we both like.

I'm thinking the south branch of the nation river down near mountain, or even closer to home in some of the creeks like Stevens, Cranberry etc, but I've never heard of anyone catching them there. Another idea I have is Oxford Mills, but I've never been and have only heard of it. If anyone had any ideas, you'd be helping me earn some points with her.

The farthest I'd be willing to travel for so good mudpout action would be about an hour or so from Ottawa South.

Also is Walleye open in Zone 18 and 15 yet generally? I don't want to cull any because she'd probably puke seeing me rip them apart but I'd love to hook onto some by accident. Thanks so much for your help!

Zone 15 and 18 are both open for walleye as of today. You're gonna want to check the regs for slot sizes though. Sorry cant help with the mud pout. Welcome to the site btw. Jon

Absolutely still catch them in Stevens or Cranberry Creeks. A bit of a pain to get your line out past the weeds for me using a hand line off shore but if you have a boat there won't be a prob at all. I know another spot near Kars that is real good too if you have a boat. Shoot me a pm if interested. Cheers
