I will be in Winnipeg/Brandon Manitoba at the end of August.
I am going to be visiting my future in-laws.
We lucked out and got free use of a cottage on Lake Winnipeg for 8 days.
I have never been and so I am looking for any pointers or advice if anyone has any.
The in-laws don't fish at all.
I will be taking all the kids with us for the visit and so chartering etc is not really in the equation.
Thanks!
Manitoba fishing....any pointers?
Re: Manitoba fishing....any pointers?
You may want to look into fishing for Channel Catfish. The reach monster proportions on the Red River... Expect to catch 20lbs with a chance of 30+ a possibility.;

Thanks Zippy
Any ideas as to where I should go on the Red River?

I may be near Winnipeg for a day in the summer of 2015 and I was likely going to use one of these guide services (split amungst a couple of people):
- City cats (referral from guy @ bass pro in TO): http://www.citycats.ca/
- Blackwater Cats (http://www.in-fisherman.com/2014/02/18/ ... l-catfish/) : http://www.blackwatercats.com/
Here is an article from Basspro which suggest near the lockport Dam: http://www.basspro1source.com/index.php ... ing-waters
A goodlist of Winnepeg shore spots can be found here: http://mwf.mb.ca/wp/resources-for-angle ... -winnipeg/
I know of a guy on another forum who does Carp fishing in Winnepeg and to south and west and catches some giants.

With the water levels in Brandon now, you might have good luck trolling down main street.

Hey Jimmy,
When i used to live in Winnipeg the only place where ive had success was the Lockport Dam. Its a small place maybe 40 minutes outside of the town and its got all sorts of fish. Monster carp, catfish, drum. Lots of sauger and walleye as well. If my memory serves me right there used to be a bait shop there as well.
Manitoba walleye are really pale....almost white and light green. Hopefully you`ll get into a few
Good luck!
Marko

Thanks Marko
My in-laws-to-be were up last week visiting.
My F-I-L and I were talking about possible spots up there way and he too mentioned the dam.
We won't have a boat and very doubtful we'll have the scratch to justify hiring a guide to get out on Lake Winipeg.
Basically my bride to be is spending the week with her sisters. Hopeful one of the sisters hubby's decides we need to get out and wet a line.
