Long time coming

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Long time coming

Post by Jimmy_1 »

Howdy

Some of you may know and some of you may not.....

For many, many years I have been an avid motorcyclist.
I have owned many bikes and put on many miles.

Post-divorce, I think the road trip to Atlanta with my brother was very much needed.

Well a decade plus passion has been shelved.....for now.

I met a wonderful woman, settled down and we have brought 2 wonderful children into this world. We are very happy and grateful for them! We also have wonderful kids from our respective previous marriages. Together we have 5!!! Yes....5! All ranging from 12 down to 4 weeks!

Last summer we had a 6 month old bambino to look after. It made getting out on the Harley REALLY tough. In fact it was the first time in a LONG time the bike sat for that period of time (apart from winter storage).

With another baby this year, I knew I had to get real and realize that for the next good while riding is gonna have to take a serious back seat.

For those that know me that Harley was like a child. I babied her!
It was really tough to list her for sale but I couldn't imagine another season of seldom riding and lets face it insurance ain't cheap either.

So I listed her......

Not long after the offers started coming in.

She sold..... :( :( :( :(

My fiance wanted me to get something I would get to use more. Something we could all enjoy like a car or a boat.

Well in our family we have a van and we also have a truck, an SUV and a Jeep Wrangler at our disposal.
So a car wasn't needed.

I started scanning the ads for boats.

Then I found her....

Perfect! Seats for all of us, an engine strong enough to take the older kids tubing and best of all I CAN FISH FROM IT!!!

She isn't new but she was like my bike. Very well taken care of.

A water test on the Rideau...45mph! I fell in love! I knew when my 16 month old smiled with glee at being on her that this was the route to take.

I have always wanted a "big" boat that I could use for fishing gar and bass to trolling for musky, lakers and ever salmon.

Next week the kicker (an outbaord I have had for some time) some used downriggers and rod holders go on her.

She already comes with a Hummingbird 697! :D

Perfect for us and here to create many more happy memories.....

Just like the Harley did!

Enjoy!

I remember hearing a friend say what he saved in insurance by getting rid of his bike, he paid for in gas for his new boat.

10% rule is what I understand. (Don't know if it is a wives tale or not, maybe some people could chime in on the math)

Example:
100HP @ WOT will consume about 10 gallons per hour. Obviously a rough rule of thumb. Prop pitch, boat load and hull style and water type will vary this quite a bit, but it is supposed to be a starting point.

Sound right? Roughly? lol..

Awesome man you and the whole family should have an awesome summer for years to come. Let me know when you want to get out fishin haha! I can bring out my boat too and we can race lmao.
