Point being, the municipality has no control over who uses the water, or for what. They can control the access but if people have private launches (ie: Lake Park Lodge) then tournaments will use those private launches regardless of what the municipality thinks (again: no jurisdiction).ShawnD wrote:Exactly. So they, the municipality, know an event is going to be held ( Which was the entire point of my comment to answer ) Wayy ahead of time...Mick wrote:So if you don't rent that adjacent field.....where exactly do you park 75 vehicles with big trailers attached to them?ShawnD wrote:I know the land is private, I was told the municipality tells the organizers to rent it to not crowd the parking ramp or they can't host their event.
I'm pretty sure if they didn't have to they wouldn't... $$
It's not a surprise to them..
So in the future you may not see tournaments being held in that ramp, because of the condos will be built, but then people from the condos will be crowding the streets![]()

Re: Oh Joy Oh Joy
good discusiion.
My biggest concern is the fishery, wonder how many fish dont survive the tournament stress ? Lets face it some of those fish are stuck in a livewell a long time .
In my opinion some bodies of water are fished way to much by tournaments.
Especially
Big Rideau
Mississippi
Rideau River
and lately the
St LAwerence which has been pounded the last couple years. Couple weeks ago there was like 200 boats for 3 days at 5 fish per boat thats 3000 Bass. (numbers are approximations) Mind you a large area but still.
Can honestly say though id rather have a bass boat go by me at 70 mph that one of those friggin wake board boats or those cruisers on the Rideau River that barely fit between each shore with the fat chick sunning herself on the bow.

Some interesting comments in this one. Every time I've been on the water all day to come home to open FH and see a thread with 3 pages of replies I get scared...
Firstly, seems like EVERYONE loves to bring up big boats, seadoos(that create no wake) and other pleasure boats as being a pain but when someone brings up Bass boats doing the same it's ridiculous. It's the equivalent of the older brother who points at his younger brother when some cookies disappear from the jar when they both did it..
Haulin Bass has some very valid points though I'm not sure about boats having to bag up their weeds.....
Are we overrun with events on our local lakes? 100% yes. Does it suck when we live in that area and plan all week to fish your favorite lake to hit the ramp 3 weeks in a row to find it loaded with a tournament? 100% yes. Can anything be done about it now? No, but the rumblings I'm hearing is maybe in due time.
We have tons of lakes at our disposal so do some research on events and plan accordingly is about all you can do.
My main concern with any event (including ours in Oct) is Fish Care and the effect on the fishery. If anyone doesn't think tournaments affect fishing well in my opinion you're delusional.
We've seen Muskrat go from being an awesome lake to a shadow of what it was, hell Barnett and Levert won a Classic there on all Largies with almost 44 lbs. Those days are over.
Lake St. Francis once gave up monster bags of Smallies, now it's tough. Tournaments weekend after weekend including one every weekend all Fall has beat it to a pulp. Yup it can still be decent but it's a shadow of what it was.
The way the St. Lawrence is getting beat up with events seemingly every weekend with 100's of boats on there is going to have the same effect it's just when, my bet is soon if not already.
What's the answer? Beats me but I truly think if tournament organizations don't start working with each other someone else is going change the playground. Permits from the MNR, Proof of proper fish care with live release boats being used for events over 40 boats and only one event per body of water per organization would be a start in my eyes.

I think the Pioneer gas station and Tim Horton`s in Carleton Place will do fine without tournament guys getting gas at 5:30 a.m. the day of an event. There are so many circuits, so many events, classics, pre fish that it does impact the fishing and overall lake environment. It`s fine to sit back and talk about your rights...we all have rights.....until someone decides to take them away.

Good morning all.
Some great conversation here and some things learned also. Thanks Shawn D for pointing out that the approval from municipality has to be there. I have always searched the clubs that I can find and check their tournament dates and locations mark it on my calendar and phone so I am not surprised so to speak. But finding all the clubs involved is not as easy as it may sound but calling the town office may be the ticket. The tournament that was held last weekend was unknown to me (Muskrat Lake) after searching all the clubs I know
The garbage bag suggestion although may seem a little off was just that, a suggestion for people who are concerned about a lake that is "sensitive" with low dissolved oxygen content so they can do their small part to help decrease the BOD of that particular water. Remember people scoffed at the blue box too
The most concerning item here for me is that SOME people who so rigorously defend their hobby do not seem open in any way to improving how it impacts others and their perception of it as well as the overall impact on the natural side of things

Re: Oh Joy Oh Joy
The club that was on Muskrat last weekend was Bass Anglers association (BAA) just for clarity.
I'm not opposed to fixing or trying to get info out there on misperceptions but I think your rant may have gone terribly wrong. There are better ways to get your point across than blanket statements that make us all look bad.
If it needs to be more controlled than fine with me but since these bodies of water still have fish in them (and nice ones at that), we must not be doing too bad at what we are doing.
The truth is if it isn't the tournament anglers that people are mad at, it will be another group like the cruisers or annoying jetskis. You can't please everyone all of the time.
You also have I realize a lot of these clubs do a lot to conserve the fishery as well as take fish care seriously though. Can we do more? Probably, but until it is known what more can be done, I don't think anything will change.

I think the BAA tournament was Aug 1 according to their web site. Last week is still a mystery to me.
I think no matter how you try to get your point across. There will always be the defensive crowd, the lets blow it way out of proportion crowd and the sarcastic and humorous crowd as well as people who support or disagree.

You'd be surprised how many "new clubs" are made here and there...
People that don't agree with how a series is ran or the bodies they fish so they create their own clicks..
Some can be found on the web, BAA, OVSB, Renegade, ShootOuts etc.. Others are on Facebook and then they're ones that are closed off to everyone.

In all seriousness, I find it quite ironic that tournaments are being pointed the finger at when talks of conservation come up.
There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to the dedication of tournament anglers and club executives.
I would suggest you assist one of the Paddletales Bass Seminars, or even make your way out to a Renegade weigh-in.
Instead of bluntly throwing shots, on what seems mostly to be a personal agenda issue, you’d see at first hand all the steps taken to insure fish survival.
That being said, if concerns were categorized, and lined up in the right direction in regards to efforts to salvaging our fishery, you’d see committees, citizens and anglers alike, bring forth more proactive solutions to the blue-green algae presently blooming on Muskrat lake.
Instead, we blame the wake crushing, weed disturbing, tournament anglers because they invade our personal space on what is a crown owed waterway.
Taunting the tournament scene shouldn’t be a priority when there are far more important issues at hand.
P.S. You weed dispersing Ninja Grass Blade lovers better have XXL garbage bags on deck!

Re: Oh Joy Oh Joy
BAA was August 1st, and we collected money from each member of the club to give to the Whitewater Township, apparently for "launch repairs" - over $145 on that day alone.
Note that casual launch users don't have to pay. Tournament anglers are asked to pay and comply, to make the launch better for everyone.
BTW, to those who say/said that Muskrat was a dying lake in terms of big bass - the winning team had over 21 pounds of largies, anchored by a high-5# class fish. And, the average fish was over 3# that day!

Valley bass was there last week with 23 teams.
I think a little empathy goes a long way and it's IMO sad to see none given most times in these circumstances.
It's funny how on one topic entitlement is the enemy yet on another it's every ones defense.
I have no issues with the tourney free for all going on in this area. My only thoughts are is that if you kill your fish, take them yourself. Don't stuff them under the dock. Don't pile them beside the scale hoping for someone else to deal with them. If you are unwilling to deal with a fish you killed then you should probably not be fishing

So back to the original post.
You want a public place all to yourself?
I'll start taking my weeds home. Should I ring them out first?

Re: Oh Joy Oh Joy
And this is my point. Instead of even just considering for a split second if 3 weekends in a row may be a bit too much for a given lake (which is the main complaint here), the response is 'FU we will do what we want when we want to'

I guess the only appropriate action would be for Haulin Bass to stand on his dock and applaud every weekend, being thankful to have yet another tournament on the lake in front of himFishing Rod wrote:So back to the original post.

While we are at it... can we get rid of the spandexed hemorrhoidal cyclists off our highways? Out here on the QC side, they are almost exclusively Muffy and Biff from The Glebe cycling 2 by 2 up the 105 or 307 yelling about how it is their right to be on the road.
What about those damn planes flying over head? Annoying as fluck and the obviouis mind control chemicals being spewed out cant be good.
Birds. Birds have had a free ride on our properties for far too long. Eating my bugs and leaving nothing but poop behind... attracting perverts with cameras and binoculars...
