Brook Trout Report. uhm stream??

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

In the interest of embarking on some adventures, does anyone recommend a particular map website? I've found MapCarta to be fairly accurate when seeking out lakes up around Stonecliffe and Mackey, and it seems to provide reliable info for the Calabogie area, however, there seems to be quite a few trails, and roads that I'm sure are seasonal. However, that hasn't been much an issue this year.

Or, has anyone been in the area of Mair's Lake recently?

At least you don't need to pay to go in there now this late in the season. But with the cold snap coming next week I figure we'll start making ice soon enough.

Is Mair's Lake, Limestone, or Blithfield ice free? Are they all accessible by car? I'm trying to decide on which to head towards.

Update on today's outing. Decided to try Limestone. Ran late, but was on the water by 9:30. There were a few lightly surfacing, and a couple splashes, but aside from a light take, it was uneventful. Tough day on the water. I think it has to do with the line I was using, it's an intermediate, and my leader w tippet is all of 15ft, but it wouldn't likely be more than 10 when retrieving, and I think that's too shallow for the rainbows. The water isn't that cold, I was surprised how mild it was out on the water.

Does anyone have any feedback on Limestone? Does it get pounded pretty hard? It got a whack of stockers, so perhaps the fish are well fed for the moment? Since I'm still new to fly fishing my average is quite poor, but I also noticed that the air pressure is quite high. I'm not sure how many follow air pressure, but I rarely have a good outing during high pressure.

I think it get hit hard when it's iced over, I've gone about 5-6 times in the last few years and get nothing but a few of the guys I've gone with have had some nice bows 3-4lb range

Hey Cgates, I got the same impression, which was mentioned by another member. What I neglected to consider was the relatively easy access of the lake. It's well stocked, but there's quite a population nearby, and I'm used to frequenting lakes that more out of the way. As Chevy's posting attests, there's some beautiful hidden lakes, but for the same drive I can head up to the ZEC, so I may put more effort there. I really respect Quebec's conservation policies/regulation, and as such there's some great fishing to be had.
