Shirley's bay 2016

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

My son and I had a pretty good night on the ice on Saturday at Shirley's. We managed 3 perch, 2 sauger and 1 - 14 inch walleye. The walleye and sauger all came within a 20 minute span after 5:15 p.m.
The bite was really light as the walleye did not even pop the flag on my tip-up. I went to check the hole and when I lifted the line I felt the weight and there it was.
All of the fish were released to fight again another day, as much as keeping that walleye was tempting!
I'll never apologize for being a hunter (or a fisherman)!

Nice haul! And ya gotta love the sauger/eye bite for that little window eh? It's pretty crazy how they do that a lot.

Hoping for one last kick at the can this weekend, depending on the water on the ice. One last evening out there would be great!!

Trucks were at the far end of the bay (north) yesterday.

Glad the ice seems to be holding up, I'll be pulling my shack off Saturday morning and I imagine many others will be too...

My LAST Shirley's post of the season!

I am not done ice fishing, but will be heading to a few other places in the late season so don't expect to get back on Shirleys. I did take a quick look today (no fishing) and saw that the ice is still looking good but the entrance ramp is extremely soupy with a huge puddle right where it goes onto the ice.

My totals this year with the new/first ice-shack:

81 Hours fished, most of that with my 10 year old son.

Fish caught.... 72!!! That was actually a big surprise to me! I went through the log book and was really stunned at the numbers.

25 of those fish were caught in one crazy night.

Totals were:
Walleye: 8
Sauger: 30
Ling: 14
Perch: 23
Pike: 0

I am not counting the mudpuppy.

My son also lost a baby tooth in the hut.

Thanks to the guys giving us a hand at the Shirley's ramp with the final push getting the "condo" on the trailer.

Would have been a great day (weather wise )for fishing but priority was getting the hut off today, minimal water on top...
