Looking for crappie

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Looking for crappie

Post by Jo3yjo3y11 »

Hey guys fairly new to the sport of fishing. I usually fish for bullheads in spring at a local Creek but outside of that I have very little experience. Anyways I've done some research online and have found some cool spots to go try over the summer. Anyways my question today is would anyone be able to point me in the direction of some crappie shore fishing in the Ottawa area? Any help would be appreciated! Also if you could let me know what lures are good and stuff! I've hear tiny tube jigs are good but I haven't found anywhere that sells them.

One of my go to is this :

I also use 2 1/2 to 3inch ripple shad swimbaits . CTC has both As for shore spots I used to go up to kars and fish around some of the little bridges along the road there on the Rideau river.

Bennett's Bait and Tackle in Smiths Falls has a great selection of Crappie tubes and jigs. Some from local Canadian manufacturers too.
They happen to be very close to some excellent Crappie shore fishing spots, so the trip from Ottawa would be well worth it.
Pick up the crappie tackle, and some intel, then fish the Rideau shores all the way back to Ottawa.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the speedy reply,

I will definitely check out the area around kars as that's not to to far from me. Smiths falls is a little out of the way for me as I live in Orleans but if I'm ever out that way I'll be sure to check it out. in terms of how you rig the jigs do you use a float or do you just jig it back to shore? Also what would be the best time of day to go this year I know for cats at this time it is better to go late afternoon on a sunny day so the water has a chance to warm up! Does the same apply for Crappie?
